Even though much of Grizzly stuff is OK, could do worse, ...

it still is not the overall speaking same quality as most OLD USA made.

And, I prefer by far to purchase USA product.

I'm commenting on the end result.

What people very often end up owning and using.

Having a choice of anything, within an individuals budget, ...

Let's say under $500....

What I said is generally most often the case amongst informed/ experienced individuals.

Marc

Yea I didn't see the $500 budget part... of the requirement.. I am just pointing out there should be a technical comparisons in choosing a particular piece of equipment, not just ABC choose them and it is popular.....like better fence / better guides, sturdier base, beefier motor, doesn't flex as much as the cheaper saws... etc.

like this guy explains it..

I would take an older Rockwell/Delta over a new PC any day. All day. Every day.

There was a time that PC was a solid brand, but I just don't think that's the case any more. If the $100 Delta is in your neighborhood, go buy it now - it won't be there long.

Totally true...

But I do wonder if that particular Delta is US made...

Nevertheless...

USA or not ...

For the price, ....

YA grab it.

But check it out running as I said before.

ANY and ALL used power tools.

That Delta is a steal! The kreg fence alone costs more than the asking price. Do it!!

And if you do, you will ****!

I just bought that same fence for $45 a few weeks ago, but if I had the chance to get it with a bandsaw attached it would already be in my shop. I suspect it's a later Delta (Taiwan), but those are still worth $100-150 by themselves.

I have been thinking about a bandsaw to do resawing as well. My budget is a little more than the OP but still I typically look for nice used equipment.

The short list of bandsaws I have been looking at have all been listed here. The 14" delta 40's vintage with cast iron Art Deco stand has me smitten but while doable I understand resawing is slow. I also understand they can't actually tension correctly a true resaw blade.

I have looked at the 14" Laguna BX and a 20" delta. I doubt I would resaw over 8" Has any one used both and have any thoughts?

I have one of those older Delta Milwaukee saws (dated 1954) with the "art deco" base in pieces in my garage waiting for some free time to reassemble. I will say it is the heaviest 14-inch BS I know of, especially as it has the dual range transmission for wood/metal---it's gotta weigh near 400 lbs! Runs smooth as silk, and you can tension the blades without any issues. The only problem I see is that the base is very compact and I don't think you could put anything bigger than 3/4hp motor in there unless you go 3-phase (with VFD to run on single phase). I have never used a Laguna, but I am impressed with the modern design. It would be a tough choice!
