These if you have any spare tractors around. Or......... you could turn a wooden seat if you have a router and a tether. Should be able to do most of those bends with a conduit bender.

Also watch out on garbage day, lots of metal stools thrown out around here.

I took some of those foot rests off some wooden stools thrown out, to re-use as a wheel on my beader.....

I use one made from scrap 1/2" gas pipe with a plywood top covered with carpet, throw on a boat cushion sometimes for extra comfort

A restaurant supply place should have them. Mine was $35, I think. Chrome and a black vinyl top.

Those things aren't cheap anymore. Sams Club and Walmart have shop stools for about $50. I've also seen them at auto supply stores.

I went with the Sears version with the back as well. If you watch for them on sale you can get them down around $40. They have held up well. It wasn't worth the hassle of hitting garage sales or trying to build for that price.

I have one of these and two of the high back Craftsman models. Northern runs sales once in a while on these:

Nice swivel and comfy too.

I'm using Craftsman Stools, they put them on sale often.

Jack Olsen:

I like your garage a lot. I have often wondered why you mounted all of your vises incorrectly.

Jack, it looks like a vise to me! :bounce: I got a couple of stools from a bar that was getting new ones, they gave them to me for free. I had 8, now I'm down to 2. Sorry, no pics at this time.

A vise should be installed whenever possible at the corner of a work bench, this way the operator is able able to rotate it and still turn the handle.

Dental stools work great. The are usually stainless bases with good wheels, adjustable and padded. I grabbed some older ones at a sale and they're pretty nice.

Valid topic all the same. 6 years ago I didn’t try to locate a stool as quickly as I might today.
I did find some newly pressed metal tractor seats that I would like bases for mounting.

I wish I could find a pic but I'll try to describe it. Using a tube bender. It was one continuous tube about 1.75" in diameter. Starting at the floor, using a CLR of ~6", north 12", rt turn east 12", rt turn south 12", up 18", rt turn west 12", rt turn north 12", rt turn east 12", up 18", rt turn south 12", rt turn west 12 ", finally rt turn north 12". Probably topped with plywood covered with foam and faux leather.

Google steampunk bar stools. If you're into that sort of thing, some of them are pretty neat. Definitely will cost a whole lot more than a surplus stool unless you have a bunch of pipe and fittings laying around.

Got my GF to pick me up a pair while they were on sale, when I was out of town once......hate those things so much I sold them off two for the price of one. Strain on my back is less with standing up!

Now for beer sessions there’s a computer chair that I move around as I see fit, and there’s lawn chairs from the deck to use.
