After using them on job, I looked them up and he suggests mid to late '50s . For the $15 I paid I felt one of the replacement wrenches was more than worth it, a 3/4" Made In Canada Proto. I knew that with the set, like a lot of wrenches of that era, the steel would be very good, but the finish would be rough. The drop forged joint made the sides uncomfortable.
Both production and consumer expectations weren't as high in those days. It had been 30 years since they could afford or buy consumer goods. As a comparison the shape and finish of a 1/2" combination on a modern wrench, which will remain unnamed, were much nicer. Just that the jaws opened. We used 1/2" square head set screws for adjustment. I was able to bend them back in a vise. No, it wasn't imported, it was made in USA.
Just a thought on old tools.
