Hello,

I wanted to start a thread as many others have about my (approx.) 28x30 detached garage/shop. We moved into the this Pendleton, Indiana home in 2012 and slowly I have been working on both the house and garage. I've always wanted to start a thread as primarily a repository or such for all the projects I work on in and on the garage itself but haven't taken the time until now.

When looking for our first home, my wife and I had very differing opinions on what we wanted. I was looking for something on a few acres with a pole barn and she wanted to live "in-town". We found a compromise by going with a house in a neighborhood but with a detached garage that would be "all mine".

This is pretty much how it looks as of today:

I wish I would have started this thread years ago and built upon it as I went.... but as I get some time I plan on starting some threads that briefly show the progress based on old pictures I have starting back in '12 and working up to today. My plan is basically to use this thread as a "repository" so to speak for me to keep track of different projects I'm working on as well as to show changes I make to the garage itself.

As far as the name, I've not really been able to come up with anything I love over the years, but I am a RN and work directly for an Orthopedic Surgeon doing primarily hip and knee replacement so "Bare Bones" was as fitting of a name as I could come up with.

So this is basically what the garage looked like when we moved in back in '12:

The garage was insulated and drywall was hung but not taped or finished. There was a pretty solid work bench built with 2x4s and a single sheet of peg board hung above it. I had already painted this black and added a couple more sheets of pegboard when these were taken to finish off the area over the bench.

Pretty quickly built a closet for the compressor and ran a 50ft retractable hose reel. This pretty much makes every corner of the garage accessible and I can get 15 feet or so out into the gravel drive if I need to.

Also ran 220 to an outlet in the ceiling above the work bench to add an electric heater

I had a 98 Corvette C5 Convertible when we bought the house.... Have gone through a few vehicle changes since that time... so here are a few random projects I did over the years on different vehicles I've owned:

Looks like it's almost too pretty to work in.

Ha Ha Thanks!! It in NO WAY compares to some of the other garages on here though!!! It's definitely kind of a middle ground where it's not too prestine to change oil or do other work in but also I want it to be a fun place to just relax and "hang out" in.

Did a couple little projects with it in the garage:

Traded my 3/4 Ton truck in on a Wrangler TJ and my wife picked up a Wrangler JK Unlimited around this same time.

I put a 2.5" lift and 33's on the JK and did a few things to my TJ

We had our first little one in May of 2015 so that created a couple other projects but also put a huge delay in garage updates.... as well as bringing about some changes in our current vehicle situation :(

The garage sits about 100 ft off the road behind our house and the gravel drive leading back to it was about 10 years old when we moved in and hadn't been cared for very well.....So a weekend with a rented Terimite, 4 yard dump trailer, ride on roller and approx 10 trips to the local stone quarry it was looking pretty good:

This is a little out of order chronologically but figured it kind of flowed with the driveway updates..... I installed a 12x12x12 triangle shade sail and buried a couple of 6x6 posts as anchors....Also ran a cable system to attach string lights from the house to the garage to update the space between/deck area a little bit.

Thanks!

It's kind of a "hodge podge" of cabinets..... The long work bench was simply a 2x4 framed work bench that was there when I moved in. The tall cabinet was simply a metal shelve unit and the others were random pieced together old kitchen cabinets. I did make all of the door myself with 1x3 pine and hardboard so at least they all match.
