Barn Door - Sealing Gaps

Hello all!

I have a decent size shop, with sliding doors on the front and back of the shop. I have an issue in that I adjusted the sliding door so that it would not rest on the bottom wheel bracket, but the concrete floor / exit is not level, allowing for a large gap under the door. The result is mice get in. I use part of the area for my young kids to play on, with old carpet layed down.

Any thoughts on how best to fill the gap? If I lower the door, it makes it too difficult to close, since the door would then rest on the lower bracket on the left of the picture.

The easiest is to lay a board down next to the door. Long term use a cement product to level the floor and add a seal like on a overhead door side jamb to the bottom of the slider. But it will never be a tight seal. Those critters can squeeze through a half inch hole when they are hungry.

I read somewhere where peppermint oil soaked cottonballs spread around will keep mice out. As soon as l get some cotton balls l will try it

Thanks for the suggestions. I do know that storing bags of potatoes on shelving doesn't work too well for keeping mice out. :lol_hitti

I have some big mice around here, but I do understand the issues of how tight an area they can fit into for the small ones.

I have used a wood board on the bottom in the past. Maybe I will attach on and put it on a hinge so it can drop down flush with the concrete.

I have always been told that if you can get a pencil through a hole that a mouse can fit through it also. I think with that style door you are going to have your work cut out to make it mouse proof.

Does the door use those cam buckle lock things to cinch right to the wall when closed? You can use a none brush type material as well. They may chew threw it buy they will also find another way in, pesky things are crafty

What about a piece of sheet metal screwed to the bottom of the door and scribed to conform to the shape of the floor?

Edit: never mind. sliding door. duh.

I can't tell how big the gap is, but what about something like the horse stall rubber mats? They are 3/4" thick and weigh a ton. They would easily snug up to the door.

The gap is a couple of inches tall on the right hand side.

MikeF,

I have the cam buckle door closers on order and those will help with some of the issue.

I am thinking about maybe having some rubber mats on a hinge, that would flip down to seal the bottom.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone!
