Was given this awesome vice yesterday! It’s in great shape, jaws are near perfect. Just light surface rust and cobwebs.

Issue, missing the base and nut etc…. Ugh.

I’ll be posting a WTB on this forum but wanted to learn from you all what my option are for this vice. Maybe:

1) have a base made?
2) find and buy a base? (Hens teeth I know)
3) figure out how to mount as a fixed vice?

Thoughts?

I would fabricate a base. I cant tell from the pics, but if it rotates you'll need someone with a decent sized lathe to cut the recess in a thick chunk of plate.

OTOH, if it's just for a user, a lathe or a router can machine a double-stepped recess into a chunk of oak and snug it down tight to the bench.

I've never had a Parker that old, but have you measured the threads on the hold-down bolt? On a Rock Island I have it was a standard thread.

Love this idea! I’ll do exactly this and keep my eyes open for a metal base. Thanks!!

I’ll also be measuring the post threads soon. Have to get my tap and die set back from a friend.

Question. Do you think the model 22 pre dates the 22x? Thoughts on age range?
