That awesome!

God Forbid if I was ever single again, I've already decided I'm headed out as far back country I can and build a small simple living space inside a big barn.. it is all I need and want..

We'd both do that if we had the cash flow, so being single isn't a requirement. :D She'd be happy with a small living space and parking for the race trailer and cars. And we're actually thinking about whether we can pull it off right now. Crossing 60 with 23 years left on your house note and minimal "retirement" gets you to scheming.

We lived in our shed for three years, fully approved kitchen, bathroom and laundry and were very comfortable. We now use it for a boys room and my wifes craft room plus my workshop. Had the mortgage down and then we thought we should build a house. 18 months later owner building we had a big house and debt to match.
Given the chance again I think we would seriously reconsider building the dream home and have spent the time and money on enjoying our lives. Not to say that we do not like our house but there are better things to do for the rest of your working career than pay off a house.
If you have made your barn liveable it is way cheaper to add another barn for space than build a house.

Best of luck which ever way you choose.

A friend had a 30x40 pole barn with 10' walls framed up, in the country so no permits or review required. Has a 6'x15' porch on the front, three 36" doors, front, kitchen and master bedroom. Stained concrete floors with PEX in them for future. 2x6 walls, 6" spray foam in walls and roof, A/C is in the attic which is also the return air plenum. Open kitchen and living room. Master bath has a shower, hall bath has a tub, 2 bedrooms, though one doubles as a study/playroom for the grandkids. As I recall, cost him about $68k 6-7 years ago, paid cash for everything. Oldest son is an Electrician, has other friends for septic, A/C and plumbing, basically his costs were all materials.

Dude,
Your barn space already looks incredibly nice. I vote you simply go all in on the barn, make it home and comfortable, and enjoy the tax assessment!
Really nice looking space you've got going there. You should take it as a blank slate and finish it out.
I need to mention it's really looking nice.
Is my envy showing?

Thanks for all the compliments!! but... even though the bride is "All In" on the "Temporary" barn living quarters, we will build a house eventually, we will probably start after the first of the year. I just about have my room sealed up, I want to leave the mini split on for a while to see how it does, I have not put my metal up for the ceiling yet, the bride doesn't want a ceiling!! but I don't think the mini split will be able to keep it comfortable with out a ceiling and it insulated. I have insulated, can - spray foamed every crack, crevice and gap, but its still a barn.
FWIW I think the dog is in heaven over there...and me too!!
