I thought I'd start a new thread for my garage build to have a spot to ask questions, get opinions, and share photos of my garage build all in one place.

I'll be working with a concrete block construction 2-car detached garage with a flat roof. Double joisted for future rooftop deck. The theme is automotive, high gloss paints so it looks clean. Walls will be white with a red base stripe, red and black ceiling, red cabinets, white wall shelving. Fridge, Utility Sink, Parts Washer, Drill Press and Tool Chest. 20 gal air compressor and a max jax lift. I have renderings, but I don't want to share those; part of the fun of the forums is suprise and the criticism that comes during the process! :p

(Moderators feel free to delete my other posted questions)

Planning to start painting this weekend. Ceiling joists will be red and the ceiling black. I'll be sure to posts photos of the progress.

Here's what I'm starting with:

I have a parts washer questions - I need something basic that will last a few years. I will probably pick up a basic stationary 20 gal washer from amazon for the time being to see how much I actually use it. My questions is: Where do I source the clearning solution and when it's thoroughly dirty in the tank, how/where is is disposed? I'm in CA, so I want to make sure I understand what the enviromental guidelines are. If it's too involved, maybe I'll avoid this tool altogether.

Finally got around to starting this. Moving into a new house with a 1 month old baby has proven to be a bigger task than I originally estimated

Started with painting the ceiling. Lots of cutting, so it took all weekend, but I'm happy with the results. I will go back with the black and touch up the seams. Paint is the Pro400 from Sherwin Williams. Red is "Red Obsession" and Black is just "Black"

Next up is wall prep, which entails removing a bunch of hooks, etc from the previous owner, and taking down some shelving. Walls are going to be Pro200 from Sherwin Williams in "Extra White"

Another question I have on the project that I'll share for the community:
Is there a way to paint the cabinets? They are MDF with laminate. I painted the back of a door just to see and as expected, the adhesion was terrible and it looked bad.

Started painting the walls. Got one done, and painted a small section of the lower trim stripe to see how it looks. Coming together nicely, although the inspection this morning after the wall dried revealed I will need a second coat :/

Looks good, I like the color scheme, my only thing would be the fear of black widows hanging out on that black ceiling where I couldn't see them!

Got the painting all finished! Still to come is the sink, surboard rack, flatscreen, drill press and air compressor, and my Legacy Industrial floor coating :)

In terms of black widows, they make webs down low, so I'm not too concerned :)

Got the garage floor cleaned and epoxy coated today using a Legacy Industrial HD kit. For my garage I needed the 600sf kit (double kit). I did the dark gray with black white and gray flake. Did it solo without issue, although delegating the cutting would have been a nice luxury. Didn't do the most even flake toss, but good enough. Tomorrow I will apply the urethane top coat after scraping and vacuuming the floor.

Observations:
Wearing latex gloves was a good call
Wearing a respirator was a good call
I should have cut the excess strap after tightening the spike shoes on so it wouldn't drag in the wet epoxy
Pinches of flake thrown in the air worked better than handfuls

This morning the epoxy looked good. It had evened out a lot and was only noticeably thinner in a couple spots. I hoped the urethane top coat would even that out.

I scraped and swept and vacuumed and swept and vacuumed again the excess flake and then mixed up the urethane top coat.

I added about 4/5 of the non-slip additive legacy industrial sells to 3 gallons of topcoat. The top coat was applied with a roller and it went on very thin using a dip and roll method. So, I went back over it using a pour and roll method to get a thicker application, and that seemed to work better.

Just finished and here's how it looks. I'll post another photo once it's dry tomorrow. Going to leave it as is with 0 traffic until Tuesday to make sure everything has time to cure and taking into account that there is variance to the thickness.

Clear didn't dry to a satisfactory finish. I'm sure it can be resolved, but right now it doesn't look good. Dried to a matte finish and in one section it dried very poorly. Shot an email to Legacy Industrial for some guidance on the next step and I'm sure all will be well. Kind of anticlimactic...

Got a 3 gallon application coming my way and will prep and apply to get that gloss finish I wanted. Excellent customer service from Legacy Industrial!

I'll be back with more pics in a few weeks after house guests leave :)
