Getting started on my clean-up/reorganization project. My goal is to have a garage where I can work on my cars, brew beer, work on house projects, and store all of my gear. I need a name for this thread...

Here are some pics from Day 1 - I framed out a closet for concealed storage space. My plan is to install galvanized metal roofing on the exterior of the walls. I was going to install bi-fold doors in the opening - but am open to suggestions if any one has any creative ideas.

The place should look pretty awesome once you get it straightened up. I see you have your helper with you. :)

Welcome! And now i'm hoping to see a dub that gets to call that garage home once its done. Is a shed in the works or possible to help get some of the extras out of there to give you more space to have a car and other projects on the go?

Yeah - I have a JSW TDI that needs to get into the garage! As far as extra space I actually just finished a shop room in my basement (which will be another organization project) and I have a shed for all of my gardening/lawn gear as well. I'll get some pics up of those later. I definately need to get started on moving some of the clutter (extras :)) out of the garage.

Re: 2 car garage reorganization - no name

I like the daily record newspaper machine. That would be a good focal point in the garage somewhere. I had never thought about one of those for the shop, but it is way cool! I think I would look around to see if I could find some durable metal bi fold doors. I like the closet idea you have framed out. Nice start and keep us posted!!

Re: 2 car garage reorganization - no name

Moving along... here are a few updates from this past week:

-Pulled a lot of contents down from the walls and started sorting

-Built a soffit shelf above the garage door

-Built a landing and started framing a closet on the landing

Re: 2 car garage reorganization - no name

Good work on the shelves framing and the step and platform as well. You gained a lot of storage on those over door shelves. Have you decided on doors for the closet yet?
Keep up the good work!

Re: 2 car garage reorganization - no name

More work over the past few weekends...

-Updated layout of upper cabinets on rear wall of garage; centered tool box
-Added shelves to new closets
-Built two work benches; 1 for each side of the too box

Next up:
-Finish benches
-Clean-up remaing clutter from garage
-Prep walls for paint
-Prep floor for concrete acid stain

Here are some updated photos along with the work bench build. I picked up a 12' bowling alley lane for the top.

Re: 2 car garage reorganization - no name

Cranking out the drywall finishing...90 degrees with 80% humidity - what a mess! :eyecrazy:

I can say with 100% certainty that I despise drywall work. I have a lot of respect for the folks that are craftsman in this trade.

I am finished with the bulk of the drywall now. Next is clean-up and prep for prime/paint. In all of the unfinished areas I am going to install corrugated sheets of galvanume.

Plan of action for the next two weeks:
-Prep for prime/paint
-Prime/Paint
-Powerwash/degrease garage floor
-Acid stain concrete floor and seal
-Install galvanume sheets
-Move contents back

Here are some pics from tonight...

Coming along nicely! I may use your idea to build a shelf above my garage door to get some rims and tires off the floor.

I think the stained concrete was a great approach for your project, it turned out nicely and fits well with the rest.

Love the JD 210. I just picked up a 87 JD 318 to mow the 2 acres I have.

Thanks! I restored my 210 about 3 years ago - I use it to pull loads of firewood around - it is an awesome gear drive machine. Love the 318's they are really nice hydro machines!

Awesome place!!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Thanks Herb!!

Excellent execution! Love the stained concrete and the tin on the walls. Night and day difference from where you started.

Thank you!!

I've been working on some fall projects - splitting wood, prepping garden for winter, canning, etc - so not much new in the garage at this point. I will post more updates once I get some more done!!

How is the floor holding up and does it do well with spilled oil etc? This loks like the floor solution I have been looking for.

The floor is holding up great - I had some concerns with all of the salt this winter but another coat of wax and it it good as new!! I haven't had any issues with spills etc.

That little heater rocks - keeps the garage around 68 degrees when it is 20 degrees outside!!

Simply spectacular, well done and thanks for the update.
