Barrett Brake Drum Lathe bits?

I have a Barrett B-500 Brake Lathe and need some replacement bits. My brake lathe came with a few bits but I have no idea what or where to get additional bits. They are triangular in shape and I suspect they are carbide, Can anyone provide a part number and source for bits which are suitable for my Barrett brake drum lathe? Your help would be greatly appreciated. I am working on a Model A ford. Thanks in advance. Supergnat

I'm no machinist, but the triangular bits are very common. Have you checked to see what differences there might be? I have 3 lathes (2 brake lathes) and the bits all look about the same to me.

The bits I had came in a blister pack from a manufacturer named Kennametal. The part number was obliterated. There are many triangular bits on the Kennametal site. I was hoping someone could give me a part number and a source for a bit which would work in this probably 60 year old brake lathe. Perhaps i should take an old bit to a brake repair shop. Thanks for the response.

If they're triangular (roughly 3/8" per side), a little thicker then 1/16", with a hole in the center, and a negative cutting rake then they're most likely comparable to standard Ammco-style negative rake cutting bits.

Post a pic and I can compare them to the cutting bits we have at the shop.

Try Goodson. They seem to know and carry parts for most brake lathes

Andy1234, Your description matches what I think I need. I have attached a photo which may help. I searched the Kennametal site for the numbers on the package but nothing matched. The triangle edges are beveled which I guess is the same as negative raked. If you could provide the Ammco number or eqivalent with source that would great. Thanks so much.

Yup, those are Ammco-style 6914 bits.

Thanks so much Andy. I do have one more question. I have installed the bit the same way it was when I purchased the lathe (narrow side facing down). When I was photographing the bit i noticed that I may have been installing the bit upside down. Does the narrower side of the bit face up or down? Thanks. You have been very helpful.
