Baseboard heaters on plywood

My garage has plywood walls, can baseboard heaters be safely attached to plywood?

If it is hydronic heat, then yes. If electric or gas element, then no and you'll need some sheetrock on the wood surface and follow the install specs for clearances.

Yes it is electric heaters. My bad, I had a 2000w and 2500w installed directly on plywood and turned ON for 5 straight months last winter. Gulp. Thanks for the tip. So I guess I have to remove these heaters and install a piece of gyproc behind the heater? Is it okay to cut just a piece the same size as the heater?

Read the directions. My cadet style wall heaters attach to the framing so they are made for zero clearance.

Agree. Each of these things have their own specific set of clearances that should be maintained. If you no longer have the install manual, you can likely do a quick internet search to find the company, and the installation and operation manual is likely available online.

Thanks for the tips. I will be picking up a new heater next week and I will check out the mounting instructions.
