Baseboard Protection?

Hi All

This is heating but not garage related. I recently redid my downstairs bathroom that uses baseboard (forced hot water) heating as does the rest of the house. I repainted the baseboard. But given its location next to the toilet, it will end up rusting in a few months. Currently, the way I address this is to remove the two pieces the wide one and the skinny one that moves sand them and repaint them. I do that for both bathrooms.

My question is: has anyone figured out a way to protect painted metal baseboards (mainly in the bathroom) from getting the tiny rust spots?

Ayuh,... Best I've found is a fresh coat of Rustoleum...

If you're re-painting, use the right paint.
Latex paint offers just about no corrosion protection. It is porous as a sponge.
Rustoleum is ok. Rustoleum sells a spray can called "Appliance Epoxy" that might be better.

Or if you really want it nice, just buy a new baseboard. You can buy just the cover, without the guts for less money. A new baseboard will be powder coated, and is highly corrosion resistant.

Another option is to take them off and swing by a body shop and see if they can spray them for you. If you arn't to picky on the color, like black or white would be fine then just tell them if they can spray them with in the next month whenever they paint a white or black car that would be awesome. I would guess 2 of them would be like $50 to paint then and doubt you would ever have to touch it again....

Just thinking out loud......
Strip it to bare metal and use a paint system similar to painting a car's body panels.
Or truckbed liner.

I had my bike painted that way. Color was whatever he was painting on the day he was ready to paint the frame, and he had a little left over.

I guess white should come up every month or so if you're willing to wait.

But a new baseboard cover is sure to be cheaper, and the powder coat will probably outlast an automotive paint.

On second though, you could send it to a powdercoater . . .

@mayday0017, @malibu101 and @rlitman - I am actually taking my wheels in this summer to a powder coater, so I might have them do that too. Probably go with white.

@jackfre That's funny you mention that. I had a female friend of mine tell us how she convinced her fiancee (now her husband) to squat. She told him, no matter what you do you will splash. He accepted the challenge. She put a plastic box around the toilet seat every time he used it. Then she got some sort of a solution (she is a chemist) that she sprayed after 3 days of use and showed him that when it reacts with body fluids it is a different color than water. I kid you not, the guy squats to this day. I told him to just go outside instead.

something i've been meaning to do as well just haven't gotten around to it yet.

My plan is to replace the rusty BB cover with a new one and put one of those clear automotive platic bra things over it. A local detail shop can hook you up with the materials.
