Have been thinking about what I want to put around the bottom of the sheetrock to protect it. Originally thought about the 4in vinyl trim like in offices, but it isn't going to really protect much. Don't want anything that will absorb water so about the only thing I have come up with is the composite stuff like they use on outdoor furniture and decks. Does anybody have any other favorites?

i went with the vinyl stuff on first go-round. i might rip it off and do something along the lines of what you're talking about. my garage is adjacent to some living space in the full basement and i don't want any water seeping under the base plate so i want mine to seal against the floor as well. keep me posted with what you come up with. thanks, joe

My sheetrock is about a half inch off the floor and the framing has a foam seal and treated lumber for the bottom. I thought about trying to seal the trim, but am concerned about being able to keep it sealed and then getting water behind it and starting mold. So at this point I am thinking of spacing the trim about an 1/8 off the floor so that if any water does get in it will have a way of getting back out. My garage is a separate garage so I don't have the same issues as what you are concerned about. I am more concerned about things bumping into the walls like floor jacks and tool boxes and damaging the sheetrock, but I don't want anything that will absorb water up to the sheetrock either. Unless I get a better idea that is probably the way I will go even iff the stuff is fairly expensive.

I bought some 12 inch smooth lap siding and ripped it in half and plan on putting a 6 inch strip around mine for the base. (thats my next project)
