I want to use 8" aluminum diamond plate as base in my shop.
Good idea?
Bad idea?

That's kind of tall and the whole diamond plate thing has been done to death. IMO
But hey, whatever trips your trigger.

I put diamond plate around the back edge of my work bench. It's easy to clean and keep **** off the walls. Mine is about 12" tall.

If I was doing the baseboard I would do it in 4" sections. Unless you need the extra, that should cover and be about half the money. Are you buying an entire sheet and having it sheared to size ?
