Based on this description--what would you offer for these sockets?

"I also have a very extensive set of sockets in metric and SAE, six point and twelve point in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch. All of the sockets are in "Hansen" organizers."

Called the guy and he said they're all craftsman. Now I've pretty much got my hansen organizers filled but not necessarily with all in 6 pt and 12 point.

What's a fair offer right now? He didn't want to suggest a number.

He's selling a bunch of quiet glide cabinets and the standard list of drills and skil saw. Nothing exciting that I need or want. But it'd be nice to have a second set of sockets around the shop.

Boy, this is a tough one for me. Craftsman are a dime a dozen used, but since they come with the Hansen organizers I would offer him $100. I personally don't think you'd be an idiot to pay $120 but I think that may be a bit much unless he throws in a couple of ratchets or something. My $.02

First check out the sale prices of the sockets, that will tell you when his price is too high. Figure roughly 1/2 off for used. Then check the sockets themselves, if they're older then they're worth more. Also you should get a discount for buying more than a set or two. All bets are off if you really need it to fill that last Hanson peg. Good luck

Do you need them, all of them?

Craftsman made plenty of sockets I have no interest in owning, like those laser etch things.

The description is too vague. One man's extensive set could amount to 3 hansen racks (1/4, 3/8, 1/2) with the shallows in 6 point and the deeps in 12 point. Would that be worth $120? No way new or used.

You need to pin him down as to what comprises the extensive set. The sizes by type (shallow or deep), points (6 or 12), and the quanity of each. Less information, and you may be disappointed.
There's nothing wrong with Craftsman sockets if you need them but, I wouldn't pay more than 30% of new list price and I'm not a fan of Hansen racks but, that's just me.

Gotcha. Might stop by and see what he's got tomorrow if I can get away. We're going to pick up 8 of the Gladiator cabinets in the morning. Woohoo.
