Basement lighting

I'm starting to finish my basement. I'm looking to find out a general rule of thumb to space the hi-hat lights I want to install. The area is approx 28X17 feet. I was thinking 8 lights in that area. Thanks in advance

6"can lights that get trim rings . Ceiling is approx 8' and will be drywall.Hi hats is a NY term I guess.

I've never heard of a rule of thumb regarding this kind of stuff. When I've done it for myself I just kinda figure out what I think will work and look good within the physical constraints that exist.

I'm betting a call to a lighting design center would yield any general rules if there are any.
