I have a wiring question for my basement. I know its not a garage question, but you guys are always helpful. I want to add a new circuit to my basement to run my condensate pump off of, as well as just having an extra outlet down there. I already have one dedicated outlet for the sump pump, one dedicated outlet for the ejector pump, on circuit that shares a light and an outlet in my mechanical room that is used for my sump back up and a general basement circuit that has one GFCI(which I have a refrigerator plugged into) and the rest of the basement lights(11 lights total). The easiest option is to tap into the existing GFCI, but it already has the 11 lights, so I am just going to add another breaker and put two duplex outlets on it. Half the basement will eventually be finished, but not for a few years. The two outlets I want to place would be along the wooden framing below my stairs. I want to run one besides/behind the furnace for the condensate pump and the other on the opposite side of the stairs. What do I need to do to protect the romex for now? Can I attach it to the bottom of the stair treads? Should I use armored cable? What are the rules for running romex through studs that will eventually be covered by drywall, but not for years? Wire isn't cheap enough right now to run down from my ceiling joists then back up to the joists to keep it all next to the vertical studs.
