Basement with steep bulkhead stairs, need solution to accessing tools

So I find myself taking more trips than I would like when I am working on my vehicle in the driveway. I have no garage, and I have a shed that would murder my Snap-On tools over time from temp swings.

I have thought about putting together Pelican cases with common projects I find myself running into. I know most of the socket sizes I need for my vehicle so I could out together a case with the common socket sizes for the car along with a couple ratchets.

Figured I would see what you guys may have for ideas since it is brutal trying to get stuff done.

I swear one of these days I am going to mis-step and go down the concrete bulkhead stairs while carrying my FJ-300 up. Plus, it is starting to become a real hassle on my back going up and down with this beast. But I can't just store it out in the shed...so this is another obstacle.

Thanks.

Any photos of the staircase and/or entry? Is it a high traffic area or only used to bring tools and components in and out?

One thought would be to rig up a small platform that would run in a track on one side of the steps that you could load with a few of the heavier items (think of a hillside elevator of sorts)? At the bottom the platform could flip up out of the way when you want to walk past it.
