basic suburban DREAM garage

Hi everyone, I'm currently, finally, building an attached 15x21 on my house in the Bay Area, California. Although its fairly plain by Garage Journal standards, going from no garage to 1 1/2 is a giant leap in the right direction for this house and I'm very excited. Its taken several years of planning, budgeting and such to break ground. Documenting it here is part of the fun I've been looking forward to. Howdy

What do you plan to do in the garage? Park a daily driver? Project car? Wood working? Metal fab?

Really take the time to plan out your electric. One of the worst things is not having an outlet where you need it. Google sketch up is a good idea to help plan it out. That's what I did but I still missed a couple outlets (one up higher off the bench for the under cabinet/over bench light and one in the upper corner for my computer monitor)

Also since it is small go as high as you can with the walls. It'll really help with storage

All utility space and projects! The house will still needs some work so it'll be a work/storage space for future remodeling. The plan calls for 8 20A outlets. Raised up makes sense for over bench. It'll be nice to have my Triumph close once dust settles.

8 circuits or just 8 outlets on one circuit? What tools do you plan on? Any 220 stuff?

Have them put all the outlets 50" off the floor. That way if you lean a sheet of plywood on the wall you don't cover them up. Also put At least one on or near the ceiling for a cord reel.

I would really suggest roughing in a 220 outlet and at least one dedicated 20 Amp circuit separate from all the other outlets. Also make sure lights are on their own circuit

My space is a little smaller than yours but check it out for Some ideas.

Theres an outlet in the ceiling for garage door opener as well. Lighting is separate circuit. I'll take a look at your build very cool. Love the bike, Its good to have one finished project around

Just remember everything you don't do now will likely cost 3x as much later. But otherwise good luck and I hope it gets built fast
