After 6 months most of the major construction on our basketball barn has been completed. Thanks for looking.

Oh there will be. They just finished the floor on Friday. Still need to run electric and finish the walls, but will probably put up the hoop first.

As a basketball Coach and a garage guy I'm torn on this one. I would need 2 buildings ... side by side of course.

Whys the door so short? If it was me I'd put in a 14-16' high door.

Too expensive. And there's no way to get anything back there like an RV anyway. So it probably won't be needed.

The door also opens straight up so its not taking up ceiling space to interfere with the ball.

Oh man, I'm so jealous of this idea. I ALWAYS wanted a basketball barn (I played about 4+ hours per day every day for about 10 years growing up... in New England... shoveling snow off the driveway to shoot even on Christmas day.. etc.). Can't wait to see it with the hoop in.

Side note: In the basketball barn in my mind, I was going to put old wooden bleachers in, and have a local artist paint a crowd on the wall. you'd have to get a scoreboard too. And a ball rack. and and and

Cstewart is my wife... Wanted to give a brief update. We now have a portable hoop in the building. Once I get the walls up and insulated with some lighting,I will post some additional pics. Building works out great. For those looking to do the same thing, 16foot walls are just high enough to allow for indoor play without fear of hitting the trusses. I have shot from 38 feet away and not made contact with the ceiling. Buiding is 30x40, 40 feet is great for halfcourt, but if I were to do it again I'd go 40 wide too.

I used some wire fencing and eye hooks to protect the windows. The ball bounces right off with little flex from the fencing. Short of a direct throw at the window, I dont anticipate any problems. Next steps are to finally run the electric, install lighting, and insulate. I have big plans for ping pong, an indoor climbing wall and ******** as well.

thanks for looking and I wanted to say i really enjoy everyone's spaces. Keep up the good work!

any updated pics?? 16' really high enough ceilings?

Yes, I'm interested in the updates as well.

I'm debating to install a hoop in my garage, just to shoot baskets in the months, something fun to do when friends and family is over (ping pong, arcade, foosball, etc).

no it isn't....

legal height for basketball gym is 25 ceilings

I know 25' is required for full court. But what about just shooting free throws. im thinking 18-20 feet would be sufficient to get a three pointer off without hitting ceiling. like to see what others have experienced.

I had a basketball 1/2 court (about 30 x 42) in an old 72 foot army type Quonset hut, it only had 16 foot ceilings in the center and there was never a problem with shooting. Even the rounded roof line was not a problem when shooting from the sides.

Height does not matter, if there is enough room to shoot a three pointer without hitting the ceiling, you are good to go. My kids used the heck out of that thing for years, I could not have found a better use for that part of the building at that time in their lives.

The other thing they liked almost as much was the regulation LIGHTED sand volleyball court in the side yard. There were times that I would pull in the driveway and see 30-40 kids, all having a great time, and none of them hanging out in town getting in trouble!I never once found a cigarette **** or beer can on the property.

I'm going 48x44x16' wall height with scissor trusses for nearly 21' peak height..... This should be more than comfortable to shoot. Planning 18x36 loft in the back for gameroom.

Any new pictures? 16 is the height I was planning, but if 15 or 14 would work with scissor trusses I would be even happier.
