Bathroom Ceiling How Do I Attach...

Hey Guys,

I decided to frame up a 8x5 bathroom in my shop and I am to the stage where I need to put a ceiling on it. The reason I didn't go all the way to the top of the shop ceiling is because I wanted less space to keep heated.

My question is how do I attach the ceiling to the exterior wall?
The space is only about 3 1/2 - 4 FT between the shop ceiling and the bathroom ceiling so it shouldn't need to hold a lot of weight.
I plan on just storing some stuff up there.

How would you build the ceiling and how would you attach it?

I'd have done a double top plate, at the corner you 'lap' it so it will be sturdier.

Ceiling rafters- 2x6 header on one wall, then 2x6s from that header out to the opposite wall. 1/2 or 3/4 Plywood: store away.

I'd nail a 2x4 against the walls with the bottom of it even with the top plate...basically a ledger board. Then you run joists as normal.

Since you want it for light storage...I'd use Simpson joist hangers when attaching them to the ledger. That will insure you have plenty of strength.

On top, I'd use 3/4" plywood.

I actually have my other top plate leaning against the wall, just haven't nailed it on yet, and yes I am planning on overlapping the corner.

SO, just nail a 2x6 to my exterior wall studs then attach the joist to that?

I think that is what I will end up doing, thanks for the suggestion.

Build another wall using the dimension of the wall widths you already have. Then throw it up top and screw it level [horizontally]. Cover with plywood.

you could put a ledger board up and screw into the joists, and then use joist hangers. Only one wall will take the load, the other side is parallel.
