Bathroom Tub Faucet Fix?

I'm trying to fix both tub faucets at my daughters house. Both leak.
Standard lookng setup one lucite knob for Hot; another for cold. When I take a knob and the chrome trim collar off, I have a about a 2"-3"threaded plastic piece around the faucet stem. This plastic tube attaches to a brass piece that I assume houses the end of the stem and the washer. This brass portion threads into the body of the fixture. It's hard to see but it looks like it has a hex on it so a deep well would fit over.
Problem is that all of this is deeper than a standard deep well socket.
Do plumbers have a deeper deep well that they use in this situation? Do I dare put a pipe wrench on the plastic portion that protrudes from the wall? Or is that asking for trouble?
The brand is Watco if that helps.
It's Friday evening, getting a plumber out on a weekend would be next to impo$$ible; and Dad's supposed to know how to fix anything.
Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Watco may be a aftermarket trim replacement kit installed to gussy up the bathroom. Deep sockets are avail to remove the stems, they are cheap enough to buy a whole set.

Pastom and Norcal, Got an HD right down the road. See if I can get a set of wrenches tomorrow. Any tricks to using them?
Jhelrey, got it put back together for the night so it can be used. Will get pics tomorrow.
Thanks to all for your replies.

If you can find a deepwell socket to fit the retaining nut,you can turn it with channel locks on the outside of the socket. The long stem will come out thru the top of the socket.

Got a set of the plumbers deep sockets at WD. Amazing how easy something goes if you've got the right tool for the job.
Thanks for all the replies and advice,
