I'm trying to fix both tub faucets at my daughters house. Both leak.
Standard lookng setup one lucite knob for Hot; another for cold. When I take a knob and the chrome trim collar off, I have a about a 2"-3"threaded plastic piece around the faucet stem. This plastic tube attaches to a brass piece that I assume houses the end of the stem and the washer. This brass portion threads into the body of the fixture. It's hard to see but it looks like it has a hex on it so a deep well would fit over.
Problem is that all of this is deeper than a standard deep well socket.
Do plumbers have a deeper deep well that they use in this situation? Do I dare put a pipe wrench on the plastic portion that protrudes from the wall? Or is that asking for trouble?
The brand is Watco if that helps.
It's Friday evening, getting a plumber out on a weekend would be next to impo$$ible; and Dad's supposed to know how to fix anything.
Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
