Hey all, redoing the bathroom and I have an issue where a vent fan is really close to a ceiling jbox if I use and elbow ( which is a no no per instructions) if I use a straight pipe, the duct will rest on the jbox.

What are the rules for distance? I could move the fan a few inches if I have to , but have it all rigged up already so would like to get a ruling before redoing the work. The run is about three feet long to the soffit and the fan is 110cfm so it should be able to over come the resistance from the angles. ,

[Mount the entire vent fan in the attic, run a duct to the room. SO much quieter.... I created a sheetmetal adapter when I did it 24 years ago, now they have inline fans for the purpose.]

I would not be at all concerned with using those adjustable elbows to create a minor dogleg/joke in the duct. IMO they don't want 90s...

Thanks guys. Sorry for the 5 separate threads. I am trying to delete them in the web view but don't have the option. Can a mod close/ delete the others?

No idea why you would want to put a ceiling light fixture in a bathroom, kind of a silly thing...

II didn't have room for a can light b/c of the ducting so I am using a surface mount LED disk light that resembles a cab. It's not any kind of hanging fixture, etc.

Sometimes that is the only solution,99% of the bathrooms I deal with just have a wall mount light or lights above the vanity mirror,it's just the preference of the majority of people (women) out there.

Our bathroom is separated. The part I am working in is the toilet and shower room. I know what you mean though

That's what I have started to do in many, Light above the vanity and one on the ceiling. The light that comes with most vent fans is worthless so I just put in a fan w/o a light

Do you have a penetration in the roof already? If not orient the fan ducting in a different direction or go up sooner.

No holes in the roof. This actually dumps out into the soffit. It had been that way for 30 years. I am going to put in a spring loaded vent in the soffit board so it actually vents to outside. Rather in the soffit that is wood.
