I lent my Motomaster 10/2 Amp 12 volt battery charger to my neighbour. Tried to use it the other day and took for granted when it started humming that it was functioning.

Next day went to start the car and the battery died pretty quick after a few cranks. Picked up the Fluke and not getting any voltage out of the charger.

Never pulled apart a battery charger before never had to as mine always worked. I found no evidence of fried components. Cleaned contacts on the relay and received intermittent voltage. Pulled the button diodes cleaned the contacts on the back plane and on all mating surfaces.

I believe working as it should, getting output voltage in both 2 & 10 amp positions on manual setting. Didn’t take any pics when I had it opened up.:wtf:

Couple of questions:
1. Should I be getting voltage on the automatic setting if the charger is not under load? Because I am getting 0 volts with no load.
2. The button diodes where can you get them and what amperage rating.
There are no marks/lettering on the ones in place. So unsure what amperage 25. 50 or what size? Where do you buy them. Our local electronics shop was no help. To tell you the truth if I could have it repaired it would likely cost me more than buying one on sale.

I have Allanson charger at the lake which I bought 45 years ago.
My first:lol_hitti
My neighbour wanted to borrow it and kind of turned up his nose at it as it has a bit of a hard life and looks a little rough. But still functions perfectly.
