Battery for a Milwaukee screwdriver 6546-1 ??

I bought a used one at a thrift store and the battery doesn't seem to be charging. See lots of aftermarket batteries online but not really sure about them as they have mixed reviews. I plug in the battery and the charger LED goes red then shuts off. Really like these for dash work and would like to get a working battery for it. It's in really good shape. I was told some cordless batteries you can split them open desolder them and there is usually rechargable AA/AAA's inside. Replace with rechargable batteries and it should be good to go. Anyone try this or have experience with the aftermarket batteries for this screwdriver?

I've used many of these for many years.. The best battery was the factory one, I'm on my seventh set of batteries for my fleet of eight drivers and it is:

Seem to hold up just as good as the factory.
Don't leave them in the charger...

Chargers are known to kill the batteries. I have a couple of the drivers, sold under AEG, Panasonic, as well as Milwaukee name, but never had the combination of a good charger and good batteries. Patent must have run out because there are a number of cheap sources on ebay. One I bought had a USA shipper and 1 year warranty, cost less than $10 as I recall shipped.

This is a GREAT screwdriver, and sold very well to technicians for around $100. Adjustable torque so its actually practical to use to tighten fasteners, not just remove them.

Switches can go bad, but some use these in production environments with very high duty cycles.
