I would still go 891...really the 921 and 923 are pretty much useable in the same situations, the 921 just uses slightly bigger sockets but what they can do is almost indistinguishable from a torque perspective.

Really though, in the end, you'll get all three (921, 891, and 900) because we all love having lots of tools here :)

Using Dewalt impact driver for DIY construction projects as well as an impact wrench for lag bolts. I am going to add Milwaukee to have all 3 battery platform, Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee. In the past I have burned out Dewalt and Makita cordless, so Milwaukee maybe for heavy duty DIY or Pros.

I had the same question and after some research here, and valuable advice, I’m going to eventually buy the 923 and 891.

Should handle pretty much everything in my home game DIY world.

The 923 and 921 are exactly the same size. Just a different anvil.

I really like my m12 ratchet for the size reason you noted

Only if you don't mind these two preconditions:
1) You don't need extended reach.
2) You use it with the small powerstack battery. Otherwise it's too bulky.

Would the ratchet work on the 2AH Regular battery? I have a few of those here, I am not against getting power stacks batteries but they'll have to wait a bit.

I use my 3/8" ratchet on 2ah's and it's fine...the battery isn't in the way even if you used a 5ah on it (though would be heavier).

I bought the 12v extreme extended version simply for the smaller (slightly) battery space envelope, even though I don’t have any other 12 v Dewalt tools.

The ratchet is quite a bit heavier, it seems, than my Milwaukee Fuel high speed. The battery is far enough from the anvil to be a non issue so far, compared to the shorter Milwaukee.

Based on what @Torque Test Channel has shown, I bet you will be happy with the 891.

You were right so far. Finally use the 891 today to do a lift kit on a customers 2009 1500 Sierra and it worked great from a 24mm socket on the lower ball joints to a 10mm socket (and I NEVER use a 10mm socket on a 1/2" impact) swapping brackets on the steering knuckles (granted this vehicle was pretty clean, so pretty much no rust and was also anemic GM stuff). Even used it to pull the driveshaft bolts where I would usually grab the Milwaukee 3/8 drive impact because my Dewalt 899s are just too bulky to fit without using a long extension or a wobble at a big angle. Same with the six CV shaft bolts....no long extensions to get in there with the bigger impacts, just a socket on the 891 and it fit right in there. I will have to use it some more over the week but I'm thinking the 891 might become my new 'daily' gun in the shop.

So I got the HD Deal 2 batteries and the 921 and I got the 1/4 impact as the free add on, I am still going to get the 923 as I thing the 3/8 will be the most handy in that size, Considering what I just ordered should I still go with the 891 or should I jump up to the 900?

I am thinking about getting the this as well,

Honestly it depends what you are going to do with them. There is a HUGE difference between the 900 and the 891. The 900 feels like it will make your arm fall off from its weight alone in comparison to the 891. But it will also make the rotation of the earth stop for a second when you pull the trigger.

The 891 is much more enjoyable to use and in my very limited experience with it feels like it will tackle a good majority of jobs unless you are pulling wheels off an 8R 250 John Deere all day. You're going to want the 900 if that is the case.

Are the 921 and 923 the same physical size?

Is this ratchet the one I want to get?

Does the battery being the size they are hinder this ratchet? I see other off brands have smaller batteries in the handle.

Sorry for the large bold font, I Couldn't get it to go away.

I personally wouldn't own a Dewalt 20v ratchet just because of the battery size. My cordless ratchets get used BECAUSE they fit in tight areas...I feel like the battery on the Dewalt ratchet would really limit its usefulness. But take that with a grain of salt since I've never actually used one.

Depending on how far/long you want it, and how much power, I am happy with the cordless Husky I have. Great for nut-running, and can break/snug manually if needed. Downside is a proprietary plug to charge.

I ordered the 921 and the 513 today, I see dewalt also has a slightly smaller ratchet or I was looking at the AC Delco one as well, I am just thinking the 513 may be to big for certain situations. We'll see once I get it in hand.

If I go with the Dewalt 503 12 V Ratchet Which battery should I go with? I want to keep the ratchet as small as possible but still have power. Power stack? 2AH? Thanks

There is no power stack for 12v. It's 20v only and the batteries are not interchangeable.

In 12, I think the only sizes are 2, 3 and 5ah

I really appreciate everyone taking their time and answering my questions, for the smaller ratchet would 2 2AH battery's be the way to go.
I really think it depends on usage. Running it enough in one day to burn though a 2ah battery feels like a stretch, but having a backup battery is always good.

If you want to rely on it, get 2

The 3.0 battery pack gives it more power than 2.0 and in our experience. 5.0 will make it run hot, we work them hard on combines .

I have only one 2ah 12 v battery. It’s good for my use, but having a spare would be nice.

Charge time isn’t too long, and a break once in a while isn’t a bad thing.

So Far I am happy with the 891, 921 and the 513. They are light weight and easy to handle, I will probably add the 503 12 V Ratchet as well. I don't know if I will get the 923 or not.

Already having the 921, the 923, especially being the same size would seem like redundancy. If it were me I'd put the money toward batteries, swivel sockets, work light or other things.

Yes I agree, I have a fairly decently equipped shop, I still do like my air tools but the Battery ones are growing on me. I may get the 900 at some point and see how it does, the 3/4 and 1 inch air impacts can get a bit heavy at times.

The DCF900 with a 5ah battery (let alone a big pack) weighs more than an IR2145/2155QiMax...just for reference.

Okay so I have the 513 20 V Ratchet, Should I get the 502 1/4 12V or the 503 3/8 12V or the 503 3/8 extended? I am just trying to fill in the gaps and figured the 12V version is a little smaller and a little less power which will be helpful in certain circumstances.

I have the 12v extended 3/8”, and find it to be rather heavy, so I don’t use it all that much.

The Milwaukee high speed 3/8 standard length is lighter, but not as strong, and the short length limits access. It’s a tradeoff for me. Stronger, longer for better access, but rather heavy, vs shorter and lighter, but weaker and poor access to fasteners.

Maybe one of each is the best answer.

I haven’t seen a need for 1/4” drive, since those fasteners are typically quite short and I’m not sure how much utility a power ratchet would add.

I figured with the 1/4 I could add an adapter to use 3/8, I have the 20 V 3/8 if needed. I think I am leaning towards the 1/4 and then the extended. This started off as getting 1 1/2 inch and now I have 5 different ones on the shelf lol.

I agree with the comment about the DeWalt 12V extended reach being heavy. I prefer the extended reach Milwaukee High Speed for this reason. It doesn't have the DeWalt’s power but it's a ratchet and not an impact and my arm hasn't completely atrophied yet. Most YouTube mechanics seem to prefer the extended reach. I like ¼” for anything 14mm and below. Owning a Toyota that’s most of the cars fasteners.
