I'm looking for an impact wrench. Air is out of the question, dOnt have room.

Is the 19.2 craftsman any good?

Which impact out there is strongest? Up to what ft. Lbs?

I'm going to be taking off lugnuts and working around cars.

Thanks!

We have had really good luck with Snap on. We have the 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive impacts at our shop and they work great. They are a little pricey but they work!

I bought the craftsman 19.2v 1/2" impact/cordless drill combo back in February. It came with a charger and two lithium ion batteries for $200. It was one of the best purchases I've made. I've used the impact for everything from removing lug nuts to removing rusty 3/4" bumper bolts off of a '51 Pontiac. It has worked flawlessly each time. YOU MUST HAVE THE LITHIUM ION BATTERIES.

The craftsman one is great for the money, but Ive never had very good luck with those batteries, if you use it regularly youll be changing them out annually.

I have the Craftsman and it is a sweet tool for the price. I've had it for a couple years now and I use it to change my tires over and to do various suspension repairs. It removes my lug nuts easily and has been able to remove every bolt I've thrown at it.

My cars wheels are torqued to about 90 ft-lbs and it doesn't even blink at them. I was removing a strut mount bolt a few days ago and it had to work at this one for a bit but in the end, it broke it free. I was totally impressed.

The Durofix R12023 18 volt is what i recommend. It is rated at 650Nm/480ft lbs, and comes with two Li-ion batteries and a 40 minute charger. I have been selling these for 3 years, and everyone that bought one, has been pleased with the performance.
I'm not sure of the retail price in the U.S.A, but they are about £375 in the U.K

The craftsman is decent but I reserve mine for just lug nuts. If youre going to work on cars a lot, I would recommend stepping up to the Milwaukee m18 (full size)

The Bosch is really made well, I use mostly Bosch and they are pretty rock solid. But as their higher end stuff are made in Germany and Swiss. They do cost more. Metabo is also very good on their high end made in Germany, and pricey.

Think down the road. Will you be adding to your battery operated tool collection ? If there is the remotest possibility then look at what other tools will use the same batteries.

DeWalt 18V for me, although I do not own their 1/2" drive impact (yet !).

That is very good point, it allows you to use 1 battery system for all you tools. My 18v is Bosch and my 12v will be metabo.

so 18v is not bad, it is pretty good, but it is not better then the other high end 18v out there. Milwaukee, Bosch, Dewalt aka 20v and metabo are all in the same league and quality.

I recently purchased the Dewalt 18V for a project at work, and love it.
No experience with other brand electrical impacts, but happy with the one I purchased.

I will keep it in my truck incase I have a flat on the truck or trailer, should save a ton of frustration along side the road.

Dewalt 36v definitely towers above the rest with power to spare. Its a beast in size though as are the other battery units

Makita... I think they are the best cordless around.

We're replacing Atlas Copcos with them at work right now. We use and abuse ours more than anyone, and never have issues

I have both of the 18 volt Milwaukee impacts,3/8" and 1/2". Both will take the lug nuts off my Superduty easily. The 1/2" model is rated for 450ft/lbs.
The 3/8" model is rated for 165ft/lbs. Both are very nice and for the money there worth it.

Very pleased with the Craftsman C3 1/2" impact. I suggest the Li-Ion battery over the Ni-Cads. I also have the C3 impact driver and the drill.

So I think I'm gonna go for the craftsman 18v lithium ion, where is the best place to look for a good deal on one? Someone had them on Craigslist for 75 bucks but I was weary on that.

My dad wants me to get new and not used, he even said he'd help pay if I went new. Where do I look? Sears?

I ended up with Bosch 24618-01 1/2-Inch 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Impact Wrench with the recent deals on Amazon + two free batteries. Should be arriving soon.

Other than lug nuts, what else will you be using the gun for? What price range are you looking at?

IR just came out with the new W7150, its supposed to have the same specs as the air driven 2135tiMax. I haven't seen one in person yet as all of my truck dealers stopped carring Ingersoll for some reason. They are pricy but you get what you pay for. My old SO 4850 is still busting nuts after many years.

That comes with an impact gun and drill? What's the difference?

I have the IR series 14.4v LIon. They have a great series of impacts available. I have the 3/8 impact, 3/8 ratchet & drill. They're great, I recommend them.

Also, where are you going to be using it primarily and how frequent?

I would also look at corded options if its only going to be used for lug nuts and axle bolts.

I started buying the Craftsman C3/19.2volt cordless tools in 2006 and they've been the BEST investment I've ever made. I use them on the race car and around the house.

I bought the 1/2' impact wrench when it first came out and it has been GREAT! I can bust the lug nuts off the race car or the trailer in a matter of couple of seconds.

I have only the Ni-Cad batteries (too cheap to buy Li-Ion and charger). I have never had a problem with the Ni-Cads; they seem to last quite a long time and recharge in a reasonble time.

I have the 1/2" impact wrench, variable spd drill, right angle drill, floursecent light, incandescent light, reciprocating saw, jig saw, circular trim saw, 7.5 (?) inch circular saw, leaf blower (jury still out on that, weakest tool of the bunch), drywall roto-zipper, and hedge trimmer. We were amazed at how long the hedge trimmer lasts on a charge. If I start out with the batteries (I think I have three or four) at full charge I've never run out of fully charged batteries no matter what the project. Thought about the chain saw, but haven't had a need yet. I usually but the next tool that is on sale or deeply discounted.

One charger, one type of battery. I love it. Kinda hoping the Ni-Cads would give up so I can get some Li-Ion batteries!

Highly recommend.

Once or twice a week, it will be used more and more often as I slowly redo my truck in the summer time.
