I have that exact model, except mine came with a single 4.0 AH battery. Very happy with it. It hasn't failed me yet, even on axle nuts. I would definitely purchase again. Its nice not to have to fire up the compressor for every tire change.

I think I paid a little less than that offer, (maybe $169?, also from HD) but I only got one battery and no case.

I would go for it.

No need to get in a huge brand discussion.......Have the Milwaukee version.........have not used my 1/2” air impact in years.
Pretty much the same with 3/8” air impact and air ratchet.......all replaced with battery versions.

Thanks, I already pulled the trigger. Its got the lifetime warranty on the tool and the battery.

Bosch makes one that takes a screwdriver bit down the center hole, if you're interested. Incredible machine.

That sounds neat, but I wanted to stick with Ridgid so I can use the batteries in my other tools.

I have used the Milwaukee version, but wanted to stay with Ridgid, due to other tools using same battery.

Just bought a Bauer (Harbor Freight) 1/2 impact. You will not regret the decision, but I would have gone for the rigid model if they would have had that deal you posted.

I paid:
100$ for the tool
60$ for small battery, charger, and 1/4" impact (could have bought battery and charger for $40, but for an extra 20$ got the 1/4" impact)
40$ for the large battery.

I already own rigid tools so this deal would have been sweet. As it is I am pretty happy with the Bauer so far, it has done everything I've asked of it except for axle nuts on the wifes Mazda 5. For that I got the air out.

Already looking up the return policy at harbor freight!!

Maybe I'm not seeing it but how much power does this Ridgid impact actually have?

I almost pulled the trigger but some reviews on the Home Depot site say they give you the old Gen 5x tool and not the Octane even though it has Octane batteries and an Octane charger.

If you're coming from either pneumatic or electric impact guns then YES go for this. Their performance is similar (does depend on exact model) to air or electric BUT the convenience and quick ease of use makes it at the very least a must-try.

If this model of Rigid is indeed 450 lb-ft rated then you'll be able to do pretty much anything around the house. Including car/truck wheel lugs (that aren't put on at a shop with 150 lbs of air).

GO FOR IT.

Mine has no trouble taking wheels off my 1ton vans. Not as high powered as others but more than adequate for most

DIY guy the rigid is fine, but for even a semi professional you will find it lacks power in a lot of situations so boss went and bought the HF Earthquake for those situations and is extremely pleased with it.

I have the Ridgid 1/2" impact and love it. I agree that it won't do everything but it does most things extremely well. If you're looking for total power, Milwaukee high torque and HF Earthquake is the way to go.

But for 99% of my DIY uses, Ridgid is perfect.

Don't shoot the messenger, but from SD:

From my research, you are correct all the Gen5X tools are Octane tools. Earlier ones are not branded "Octane", the later ones are. The Gen5X tool can be confirmed by the tool contacts having 4-pins vs 2-pins (non-Octane). Keep in mind the specs are different:

Example: 1/2" impact wrench (not driver)
Gen4 tool + regular 18V battery = 325 ft-lbs
Gen5x tool + regular 18V battery = 450 ft-lbs
Gen5x tool + Octane 18V battery = 620 ft-lbs

I have the Ridgid impact and love it. The convenience of cordless is huge for me plus i don’t want several brands of batteries/chargers around. In my shop I have two chargers and five batteries. Makes it much easier to work non-stop, even with some power hungry tools.
