Battery powered nailers

I for one would love if say Milwaukee or Makita would come out with battery powered nailers, a M12 brad nailer or finishing nailer would be the cat's *** as so would a Makita 18V framing nailer. I understand that expecting a battery powered framing nailer to compare to pneumatic models would be an unfair comparison.

So along those lines please post you experience with battery powered nailers that you've had. I am aware of the fuel powered units from Paslode, Bostitch, Hitachi and the like I'm more interested in the battery only type.

We use a battery powered 18ga finish nailer from DeWalt at work. We use it almost every day to re-attach mouldings and other things in RVs. So so so handy, we love it, we use it all the time, very good battery life and shoots up to 2" nails.

I would really like to hope they've come a long way. Good to hear the DeWalt above is working.

When the Paslode first came out, it was a POS. That was the one with the little gas canister and what not...but that was a long time ago.

I have both 18 ga and 15 ga Dewalts and use them almost exclusively now when shooting those sizes. I have both Hitachi 15ga and Milwaukee 18 ga air nailers that only see use for very large jobs. It is so convenient not dragging compressors and hoses around. I regularly shoot 2.5" nails through the 15 ga without issue.

If you have 18v Dewalts, then get these for sure.

Does anyone know if DeWalt plans on making 20v nailers? If I buy a bunch of DeWalt again...IDK if I should go with 18 or 20v. (I have Makita now-impressed with impact only)

The good thing about staying w/ the 18v is SO MANY tools on CL for cheap!

But the 20v is/should be taking over....

We've had good luck with the Dewalt 18v 16 gauge finish nailers

I have a DeWalt battery powered finish nailer that shoots 16 gage 2-1/2 inch nails with only an 18V battery, and it is the cat's meow! It has a depth adjustment, and two firing modes. I LOVE that tool! If you ever use one, you will never use another air powered finish nailer. They are available in a straight, and also an angled model.

The Dewalts are a bit bigger because they have a little belt drive compressor in them. They all use the same drive system and have a different magazine. I have had a 15g strait Dewalt for 5 years and use it alot for repair work. I picked up a 18g brad nailer too because the 15g t-headed nails will split delicate trim.

had a paslode one, it was alright, gave it to my BIL

now i have a ridgid 18v angled finish nailer

love this thing, havent had a problem with nailing anything together with it, always there and no hoses. its a great day when you have to just nail up some trim or a few boards together and you dont have to carry the compressor or hear it run

if this one ever dies, ill buy another in a heartbeat

Don't worry too much on the 20v vs 18v, both are 18 volts. Dewalt and maybe some others named the Lithium Ion battery tools 20v so they are easily distinguished from the ni-cad tools. Li-ion will give you a better battery run than the older batteries since they run at full power then drop off versus the older batteries that provide less and less in a smooth drop as they run down.

I'm not worried about the power difference. I'm worried about them phasing out the old style of clip in batteries and replacing with the slide in 20v.

bingo. i just picked up almost the full line of lithium tools from dewalt in 20v, so i don't want one old style battery only for my nailer.
