Battery powered paint gun-when?

Does anyone make a hlvp paint gun that runs on a battery? I have a 80 gal compressor that needs to be rebuilt, but I dont want to. Because as soon as I do, I'll find a gun that runs on battery.

We've got grinders and circular saws, even Sanders that run on a battery. Why not a paint gun? It's the only thing I need a big compressor for these days....

Anyone else in the same boat?

Run time is going to be your biggest issue. To move that amount of air requires a large pump which takes a lot of power - an 18V or even 40V battery system just won't be able to keep up with most use cases if they can do it at all. Spinning and electric motor with a blade or disc on it is much less energy intensive than compressing air or pulling a vacuum. Doable? Sure. But probably not to the extend that the use case requires.

Not HVLP, but Graco has 3 airless handhelds using the DeWalt battery platform - they are great for small jobs. They have teased a full paint rig that is launching soon also using the larger DeWalt batteries.

Airless a cordless is completely possible. An automotive quality finish on the other hand will never be cordless. Your not going to see any SATA or Iwata battery powered spray guns in your lifetime. You can always use a turbine but honestly the only one that was any good was the Accuspray 10 and 3M killed it when the bought the brand.

I was thinking the same thing. House paint is possible, but I was hoping for auto paint. Well, it looks like the speedaire is getting some love. Drat.
