I’m working on organizing our parts room today and I’ve misplaced my tape measure a dozen times. Silly problem but I came up with a quick fix for myself. I took a small HF magnetic hook and drilled the back of the rivet/threaded part. Then shaved the small ridges on the back of the tape measure where the belt hook centers and used the screw to hold the magnet on.

The magnet is none too strong but works just well enough for me today. IMG_2283.jpeg

I could never get away with that. That magnet would have a baseball sized clod of swarf, metal shavings and grinder particles stuck to it by dinner time.
This is our parts room. Lots of metal shelving and cabinets to stick it to and nary a sliver of stray metal.

I have a neodymium magnet on the bow of my horiz bandsaw where a tape measure lives. It's just a little 10' Craftsman so not good enough for me to steal to use elsewhere so it's always there were I need to measure a cut. I have another on the fridge like that but it's a little nicer komelon that sometimes wanders

In a moment of weakness I purchase one of these for my desk. Don’t remember the price but I do remember feeling like I was doing my SO guy a favor and padding his bottom line.

I was looking for something like these. I didn’t see them in my searches and we don’t have Menards out here. Even Amazon didn’t show me what I wanted.
