Roof sheeting on. The 3-12 pitch makes for some funky angles in the valleys, but I'm told there won't be any leak issues.

Orientation of the Garage to the house. They share an access from the street below but then each branch off and have their own driveway.

Finally able to walk around inside and get a feel for the space! Raising the roof the additional foot and the use of parallel scissor trusses has created a pretty open space.

We added an extra window on the north side to try to break up some of the 'silo' look created by raising the walls.

Yeah deffinetly pretty excited. Haven't had a real Garage/Shop before.
The view is looking down the Howe Sound in a Southwesterly direction.

Does anyone have experience installing a four post lift on a sloped floor?
Is it an issue? Are shims required?
We're grading the slab 3 inches over 28' sloping towards the Bay Doors.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Awesome location to live in. I love the Pacific North West. My wife and I want to move up there in a few years, though on the 'Murican side of the border.

We really like it too. My wife is from the area but I haven't really experienced the months of 'constant' rain that I'm sure we're in for yet!
But...that's what we have a Garage for right!!

Better than constant freezing rain/sleet/snow that we get in the winter. Snow already started for the year.

Im from northern BC and have to agree that I would prefer the rain to the snow and bitter cold. We do get snow in Britannia Beach but not much or often I'm told. I plan to install a wood stove in the Garage for comfort and I love the sight, sound and smell of a one.

It's really starting to take shape. Congrats on the baby girl, they change your life forever. Tonight I watched my daughter marching at the football game. Next year she will be a senior then off to college, Damn where did the time fly.

Whats the desirable slab thickness...? I've seen 4" and now 6"...
Is there a standard?
Is it typically a lot more expensive to request thicker slab?

What dictates slab thickness...?

To be honest, I didn't do much research on it. I just had a conversation with my builder around planned use in the two areas and went with his judgement.
The finishing per square foot is the same either way, so any additional cost from 4" to 6" would simply be based on the overall larger volumn of 6".
I'm a little concerned about the grade we put in (3" over 28') and the installation of a four post lift. I searched the forum a bit but didn't find too many people who have dealt with it. It sounds like there is a certain amount of levelling adjustment in some lifts?...that might take care of it, but more likely I'll need to shim up the low posts on the one end. I haven't purchased the lift yet but am leaning toward the Danmar Commander 7000X.
Anyone have an opinion on this choice?...good or bad?
Thanks

Ooh, a new lift company... Danmar, how do they compare to Mohawk or is BendPak a better comparison? I like the price a lot better than Mohawk... :)

I want to hear what you guys have to say!!

I live in Richmond and have a danmar four post and the slope on my floor works fine with the lift. My wife would love to move to your neck of the woods for the view alone.

Thanks...any idea how much slope you're dealing with?
I'm surprised more people haven't realized how easy of a commute it would be from out this way now that the highway has been improved.

Congrats on both the new born and the new shop. Looks like the rain has come, so there will be lots of time spent in our shops this fall.
I personally would level the lift. I looked on the Danmar website and they dont recommend installation on a slop more than 3" front to back and 2 "side to side.
Keep the pics coming..:)

I emailed Danmar and am waiting to hear back.
My floor slopes 3" over 28' which would equate to approx 1-1/2" over the length of the lift....so it might be okay. Can't see the harm in shimming it though. Side to side it's level.
I'll post Danmars' reply when I get it.

I have about 1 1/2 inches of slope. I purchased my lift from Babco tools in surrey about four years ago for 1800.00 and I just checked there web site and now the price is 2999.00, wow that is one large jump in price. I would now buy a Bendpak HD9 for 3160.00 as it is rated for 9000 LB and you can get more accessories for it. Checkout there web site as it has a great comparison of the two types of lifts.

http://www.babco.ca/BendPak-Direct-Lift-Comparison

Let me know if you would like to see my lift before you spend the money.

Thanks for the link!
I've been looking at the Danmar because it has a few more inches of clearance (82" compared to the Bendpaks 79"). My daily driver is the higher of the two vehicles so it will be on the bottom and I think I need about 80". That was a rough measurement that someone else took and I still need to confirm.....but it's tight!

Mark,
Your builds coming along nice. Really taking shape. Unfortunately it seems like it takes forever but be patient.

I don't think you will have problem with the slope span on the floor. I have the same and you really can't even tell it's almost negligable although i don't have a lift. Anyway keep up the good progress and the pics.

Yeah...patience isn't exactly my strongest suit!!...haha...
I"m glad you mentioned that about the slope...didn't know if I should be stressing over that or not. I probably won't be getting a lift until the spring though. I'll just be so happy to get some things out of storage and out of the weather for now.
