I have a BCS Bio 100 chipper shredder with a chipper blade attached to the flywheel and a "fixed blade" (that's what BCS calls it) at the bottom of the chipper feed hole. Does anyone know how much gap should be between the two blades? :headscrat

I've never seen this BCS unit, although we have sold their tillers. My guess would be like 1/16 inch, measured at the closest point ( sometimes the gap is not exactly equal ) If it's too wide it will want to whack the wood instead of severing it.Be sure the blade is really sharp, and the bearings have no slop in them.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Steve. You are right - it turns out the recommended gap is between 1/16" and 3/16".

And, whoa mama, are you right about keeping the blade sharp! This is my first and only chipper/shredder so I didn't know how important a sharp chipper blade is. I let it dull down to the point where I had to push 1" limbs into the chipper chute. But, because it happened over such a long period of time, I didn't recognize how bad it was. After sharpening the blade I found that 3" limbs self-feed into the chipper chute. What a difference!
