I recently purchased a vintage beach tool box . It has had a rough life ,rust and dents abound . I would like to remove the handle and the metal beach emblem . Before sanding and painting. Where would I source the rivets with the large heads0480EF25-14FF-4E63-8342-1AC0A429DA4A.jpeg

I don't see rivets on the ones I found. Are they blind? Beach is a Canadian company and apparently still in business as a subsidiary of someone. Hove you tried them?

Anyway, no help w/o pics.

The entrepreneur who started the original Beach Tool company wanted to retire . Beach was bought out by Stanley which wasn’t a good thing . The brand soon failed I believe the name was resurrected by local individuals in Smith Falls Ontario . I understand that enterprise was closed .Regardless the the manufacture process was changed from the original .

By coincidence earlier this month I obtained a Mastercraft made by Beach (B29). Had been looking quite a while.. Drawers look like nothing has ever been in them, but the top looked like it was used as a paint mixing table. Sanded the top with 400 and shot it with Massey Ferguson red. Rivets are rusty too. Might do some micro cosmetic surgery there with a small dremel wire wheel. Big fan of Beach, couldn't afford them as a kid.

I have some semi tubular rivets I bought from Hanson in the States to renew my Beach toolbox. They should fit your handles, I don't have any small enough for the plaque, sadly. We are both in Eastern Ontario it seems, maybe we can arrange some sort of transaction.

Look no further than Grainger for your semi tubular rivets. While there, check out their clearance goods...lots of other neat (and cheap) stuff. Small orders ship for around $9.

To set them, look at the tools in a sewing store that sell snap buttons...much the same idea. Pictured are some tools I found at BIG LOTS a few years ago.

Beach is indeed dead and gone and buried. Here's their story.

Looks like good match. My favorite is Sunshine Red. The cabinet is sunshine red compared to the Beach red on the fold up shelf, pictured.

Love the Beach boxes, I'm moving my 3 drawer from the cottage garage back home to my basement garage.

I have some touch ups to do, hopefully the paint references match!

I bought the box new, when I was in my early 20's with my own paycheck. I am no longer in my 20's

Nice! Ya, the keys are available from Office Keys in Bobcaygeon. Knowing my Mastercraft was made by Beach I went ahead and ordered them using the code on the lock and as suspected they are correct.

Except that locks been replaced.
They use normal style lock so they're pretty easy to get if a new one is needed for whatever reason.

There are lots of locks out there. I use thumb latches on my boxes where you only need to keep the door shut. Found them in PAL surplus a long time ago.

I meant that it's a typical cam lock and not something unique to beach that can't be easily replaced.
My newest box has one of those cabinet doors that needs the lock to stay shut.. yep those thumb latches are great for that.

And it's one of the rarer tall wide cabinets.
It would be interesting to know if it was always labeled as a Mac tools one. There are some out there but usually they don't have the beach sticker on the bottom that this one looks to have. One of my side boxes is a Mac with the same logo.

The Mac Tools emblem looks crooked and I'd guess an add-on by the owner. It's a shame we cant see the door,or even if there is a door.

Brand new here. Didn't want to start a new thread asking about old boxes but I thought I'd just share a couple pics of something I recently inherited and tap into the knowledge here.

Couple of top box's and at least 1 matching bottom and a mismatched bottom? I dunno!

1- B26 and 1-B29 and 1 - B89? Is the Waterloo part of the same line just newer?

Any help identifying would be nice. Drawers mostly slide nice. I think it's missing at least 1.

Anything else you all can notice?
It's going to be my winter resto project.

Yes, Grainger is where I got mine. My B29 used 9/64" dia. 5/16" long rivets the hanson part number is BSZ05-100, grainger # is 1HBP9 , the die/clincher is hanson # HT-175, Grainger # 6LB95

This really helpful Huck, thank you for the detail. I’m reconditioning a B96 and a B89 and several of the rivets are loose. I could use a centre punch, but I’m concerned about the domed tops flattening.

When you set the rivets, what stops the domed head from flattening?

The head fits into a cupped fitting to take care of that, something like this:

I stumbled onto this box and had to bring it home . It’s used and used hard but everything is there along with some scars . A Beach sold through T Eaton company . Back in the day my parents were small time farmers . Everything in our house was from Mr Eaton furniture ,Viking appliances ,clothes . hockey sticks etc .
I didn’t need it and I overpaid . That Viking label brought everything back . I believe it may have spent time in a feed mill and the first cleaning had a lot of seeds and chop feed .
The Beach were sold through Canadian Tire , Sears ,Eaton and some farmers Co-op’s

That’s a great box to take home. Two Canadians icons in one. Nice score. I too was watching that box 😉 give it a good cleaning and enjoy using it for decades to come 😀

Thanks ! Gosh I was surprised it had sat there for a while . The guy said he was firm on the price ,then dropped it without negotiation. He said he got it from a fellow who cleared estates so I can only guess at the actual back story . My neighbour asked why I wanted another Beach I said just something for my estate sale —good to hear from someone so close

I was lucky to inherit a beach upper and lower box. Does anybody have a line on replacement beach logo stickers and metal badge logo?

Sure it’s a little tired, it’s been working its whole life 😀 Evaporust and Naval Jelly work wonders, bonus that the rivets are not rusted. Take it apart, clean it up, lubricate, take some autosol to the handles and rivets, and reassemble. Put that fella back to work!

You don’t have to put tools in it, use it for anything you want. I have a Waterloo-made Mastercraft on my desk that hold my stationery, pencils and such, and I use a Beach mid-tier to hold smaller items in my office.
