Beacon Morris installation finished.

Garage heater done. Bought everything from Menards and had a few things to take back bought over a year ago and were returned with no problem at all,nothing but good service at our MENARDS. It's installed with cat 111 horizontal venting and combustible air inlet box and controlled by a simple digital thermostat five feet above floor and pretty much below the fan side of the heater. The thermostat location was just a test location but after running the heater numerous times it will stay put as it works perfect where it's at. The Beacon Morris 75,000 BTU heater is quiet and no vibration, my garage is fully insulated 28x36 and the HVAC guy said it should be an almost perfect fit.

No real wall thimble with a concentric vent kit. There is a 7 inch round duct that goes from the vent box (fresh air to combust from outside) through the wall 7 inches or so that the cat 111 flue pipe runs through the inside. You should be able to tell from looking at the pic of outside garage wall termination. The flashing on the vinyl siding I made myself very patiently and it looks factory made..real proud of that because I'm no tinsmith. Hope that helps Joe and your welcome.

Not to be critical, but the home made flashing looks great except you would have been better served to have j-channel around the box instead of the caulking. The vinyl is going to move with changes in temperature and eventually pull the caulking loose from your flashing creating an area that will leak. You need the J-channel to direct the water around the flashing box.

Take a look at your windows and other openings to see how the J-channel works to passively direct water and to give your siding room to move.

Manwithtools and Joe, looked for a large mounting block 12x12 or similar but none local and didn't want the hassle of online shopping mistake by me. I measured carefully and made the flashing block so it mounts under the top lip of the siding and there are weep hole's in the bottom. The original siding is still under the flashing with a seven inch hole caulked before covering. Appreciate the critique as that's how we all learn...no worries here. I will get a better pic and please let me know what you think, I appreciate the comments.

I guess the pic is a little misleading...the flashing is cut like a surface mounting block I guess if that makes sense ??

I think it may be difficult to source a 7" storm collar. I was not able to locate one for my installation.

There were a few online new construction mounting blocks but that entailed tearing my siding apart and installing the j-channel etc. The fresh air inlet-flue combination slope at a downward pitch at 1/4 inch per foot so even if the diy flashing would happen to leak it would not flow back to the caulked joint between air inlet and siding. What type of siding on your building Jay ??

I have vinyl siding. I had to remove 3 or 4 rows of siding to install my my flashing. Like you I sealed around the 7" intake pipe prior to adding the flashing. I think the problem with caulking around siding is that with the expansion/contraction the caulk is under a lot of stress.

Yes sir combined length of pipe .. appliance adapter..vent termination and 45 degree elbow was more than enough..a 45 degree elbow equals 4 feet.
