Not sure if this area would be correct or the "Wanted" category.

Does anybody doing beadrolling "art" here? I have a panel that I want to have done for the front bed panel on my truck.

I don't have final measurements yet but it"ll be somewhere in the range of 68" 12". What I'm going to want rolled into is the 1990's tailgate lettering.

If anyone is interested in taking on the job or has any insight, please message me.

There was a guy building a one-off Tacoma on the Expedition Portal forum a few years ago to export to his expat posting in east Africa where one of his many mods was to graft the old-skool TOYOTA imprint off a 1970s truck into the brand new Tacoma.

Rather than roll the pattern into the new tailgate, he cut the sheet metal from the old one and patched it into the new one.

I'll bet something like that would be a ton easier than creating it in your panel, and I'm sure there are lots of old tailgates that could be sacrificed for the appropriate patch.

I wouldn't be against that but I don't believe a stamped tailgate of this era exists. They were all vinyl stickers or the big solid badge.

friend of mine starting out has a instagram page under ( hoboshotrods )

check him out . he is a super cool guy and he wont just take your money . he is a super nice honest guy .

from watching and listening to him the 68" width might be a deal breaker for most guys . as the need to swing the panel in the roller as you roll it in this will be a LOT of jaw room most smaller units cant handle .

some guys might tell you 2 panels to make it smaller width to fit inside there unit .

I have a bead roller and have done some bead rolling, but that is not how I would approach that project.
What are your plans to be able to bead roll the rear panel of that gate? Will you be separating the inner and outer? Or will you be graphing in a bead rolled panel offer it is embossed?

How would I do it?
I would have a panel plasma cut in order to create a male/female die that sandwiches the panel to be embossed. Then you run that through an English wheel or a slip roll to make the embossing.

There is another way as well, you can cut the letters out and then silver solder them to the tailgate. Then do the finish work.
If you want deeper letters you can cut the letters out and then create a hammer form to roll the edges and give them more depth, and then silver solder them to the tailgate.

Keep in mind that when embossing the metal has to come from somewhere so you will see some "shrinkage" and/or warping of the panel. This is a problem when trying to emboss into an original panel verses embossing a separate panel that you will later weld into the original panel.
As was mentioned above, if you can get an older panel that has the embossing you want, like from the 60s and then cut the piece out you want and weld it into your tailgate, that may be the cheapest way to approach it.

If you were local I would say come over and play with the bead roller, they are a bunch of fun.....of course once the coronavirus thing is over you could always come over on a road trip.

If you need more explanation or ideas on this just message me and then we can get on the phone. Also if you want to learn more about this stuff look on metalmeet.com

There was a guy here recently that showed how he pulled off embossing some 20ga metal with vinyl letters and rubber sheeting on a press. It turned out damn slick. If I can find it, I'll be back.

For beadrolling, Jesse Harris in Hollywood MD. Find him on FB or I can PM his contact info if you like.

Seeing what you want done, if it were me I'd do the embossing method..

Thanks for the insight everyone. I figured the beadrolling may be an issue with the length of the panel.

I ordered a piece of that rubber to do an embossing test.
