beak jaw adjustable wrench

Back when I roughnecked offshore, I quickly learned that any small tool is hard to come by, so most of us would carry a small adjustable wrench and groove joint plier. For anyone who has never roughnecked before, the rig tongs have dies that grip the drill pipe for making connections, and these dies wear out from the force of making a few hundred connections. Well, the dies are usually held in place by a small bolt with a nut on the back side, and they are in a very hard to reach spot. My driller had bought a craftsman adjustable wrench that had very narrow tips on the jaw, which I believe were called beak jaws. I cant find them on sears website anymore. Does anyone else make a similar style adjustable wrench? Given the vast amount of bolts and nuts on a rig, an adjustable wrench is the only tool that will do the job, but the beak jaw style just seemed to work on everything. I believe he had the 10 inch adjustable with rubber grips, and that thing worked perfect.

The Craftsman were not rebranded Ridgid. Western Forge made them for both Ridgid and Craftsman as contract tools.

I've got the 6" and the 10" from HJE and they're great. Almost no slop in the adjustment either.

I grabbed my 4.5" with a flap disc and shaved cheap adjustables to fit in CQ air fittings.

Granted, this is different, but why not just shave down an adjustable the way you need it? Save you some cash....

I have the old Craftsman beak jaws and agree they're nice. I really like that they open to a much larger capacity than a regular all-sixteenths of the same length from other companies.
