I have done a search on this subject but need to ask a question. Is there an good, American made bearing press that can be had for $500 or so? I am doing some work on some old 60-70 era cars and need a press to push out control arm bushings, ball joints, etc. Nothing real heavy. My friend bought a HF press and it works. However, I would like a USA press, if available. Thanks for any advice.

Watch Craigslist and Ebay for one. Usually large items are too far away to bother with, but if the deal is right and you have a truck, you can afford to drive some distance. I drove 1800 miles (roundtrip) in 2003 to pick up a Dake 25 ton press I got for a bargain price. Even with the cost of going and getting it, my total cost was about 20% of what a new one identical sold for at the time. No telling what a Dake sells for now.

Just last September I drove a 1500 mile round trip to pick up a portable gantry crane. While not as good a bargain as the press was, I still got a fair deal on it, much cheaper than a new one and this one was in excellent condition and came with a new trolley and chain hoist.

Even with the price of gas going up, you can still afford to go the distance for a bargain.

Doesn't appear to, would take alot of looking.

Don't forget, do not limit your searches too much. searching for "hydraulic press" will get you some listings on Craigslist or ebay, but searching for "hydrolic press" will find you some more usually.

Remember, the sellers cannot spell and don't pay attention to what they are selling, makes it tough to get a buyer.
