Craftsman 150 drill press - old and tired, but I bought it anyway. Will eventually do some restoring, right now - it works! Spindle seems tight with little runout, only one slight sticky spot in quill travel - barely noticeable. Beats me how the previous owner used it - when I fired it up, the spindle ran backwards! Few minutes with a screwdriver & it now turns in the right direction, and ....IT DRILLS! Oh yeah, gotta do something about that handle!

He likely thought ALL his drills where toast!! I can see him chucking them one by one, getting no where, buying a new set, pressing so hard it just burned it's way through, then finally stopped using the "POS" press - which really wasn't.

Hard to tell from the pictures but most of it does not look that bad. I know I have seen much worse. The only way I could see breaking the handles like that would be to knock it over or crush it when moving it.

I'm sure it is keeping some interesting secrets of a past life.

Maybe all he had were left hand drills!

Anybody just happen to have the speed reducer parts that were optional on this DP? Drilling some 3/4' holes in 3/8" thick steel and slowest speed was a little too fast. Might also swap to a bigger motor too, though I kinda hate to because it has the original Craftsman labeled motor.

That little piece can cost as much as one of these DPs...

I'd make a slug for the center of the post, Drill a pin hole off set in the slug, and make a pulley "Bell crank" with about a 1-1/2 - 2" Swing, and let it pivot so the motor tension will do both belts.
