I purchased this jointer almost a year ago, expecting to refurbish it eventually.

Finished the jointer itself a few months ago, then put it on a modern stand with a newer motor... which just didn't look right.
So using a stand from the same manufacturers radial arm saw I had, I mounted the jointer on a period correct table. Then I went to work on an old Wagner Electric 1/2hp repulse induction motor I had.

Beaver 3800, 6 1/8" jointer w/ Wagner Electric 1/2hp motor on a Beaver RAS stand w/dust collection port under infeed side of table.

How it looked when it came home.

Every thing came apart, if it could be blasted it was, polishing for nuts & bolts, tables were scraped with safety razers, then sanded to 300grit and finally waxed.
All put back together it looked and worked great.

Mounted on the newer stand with modern motor... just didn't work for me.

Now on an old stand, with an old motor... that's better.

Old Square D switch rated for 3/4hp motor @ 110v

Complicated fence system, but moves so smoothly and very accurate.

Old motor, torn apart, cleaned, painted, polished and regreased.

I put it up for sale last night, and it was essentially sold in a few hours. I really enjoyed taking it from what it was to what it is... but I have a hard time using them after making look this good.
I deliver it next Saturday, and will move onto the next project.

That looks really good. I like the old table that you found for it as well. It's very similar to my old Rockwell sander that I have. I just picked up an old Beaver band saw this weekend so I was interested in what you have. Very nice!

I have have a Beaver table saw, radial arm saw, 4" jointer and this 6". All great pieces, Canadian made, and totally worth their cost & weight compared to their modern equivalents.
And... all gone after going bigger, 'cept the RAS... motor burned up and was too much $$ to rewind or try and replace. But it donated its stand to this cause.

You are just down the road really, if you're ever east an hour, head north of Cobourg to Rice Lake... always a cold beer and something to sit on available.

Nice job!! To complete that "old" look, keep your eye out for some Beaver (cast iron) legs. They come in two lengths.

That's a very nice machine and the restore was beautifully done. I don't doubt you sold it quickly.
John.

thanks, I was surprised it went as quick as it did, but I found out the buyer was tipped off by a member of a wood working forum I am on. I had posted it there a few hours before the kijiji ad (like craigslist)

Those beavers must be a ****** to butcher , eh?:lol_hitti

you gotta be careful with these Beavers... they can chew through your wood in no time!!

Wow! Beautiful restoration! How could you bear to part with it?

I enjoy the time spent with them, but I have a hard time using them after spending so much time making them look good. This one was a bit different too though. I know I want atleast an 8" jointer, so if I use this one it will be well taken care of, but I would never get as much for it as it looks right now. So for now I can use my track saw for 1 straight edge, and flatten one side on a sled in my planer, opposite order of course.

You know I keep my eyes peeled but have never seen those other than online. They would have been perfect for this.

Before you deliver it we need a close up of the logo on the safety guard!

Will do, I'll grab some of the tags too.

wow! that's an awesome resto!

Thanks, the Wheatley 6" waiting to be done just isn't going to look quite as nice once all done. The lines, intricacies and mix of aluminum, cast iron, chromed steal, etc really shows how much time and effort went into making these old Beavers.

A few more photos showing the finer details of these jointers.
So different than todays versions found in BORG stores.

Fence adjusting system, looks complicated, but
release the chrome plated handle to remove tension on slides
grab polished aluminum handle on back side (not visible in this pic) and adjust to desired angle
tighten chrome handle and it's locked into position.

under this safety cover is handle to release tension on the parallel shafts to adjust the depth of cut for narrower pieces, or for cutting rabbits.
