Wife and I closed on our first home Friday. Built 3 bed 1 bath built in 1980. wide single car garage with additional storage shed. NO HOA(thank god!!).

The fun began almost instantly. moved in Friday afternoon right after closing and had the drains backup after wife and I took back to back showers. ran draino just to try it and then it backed up again next morning. called the home warranty company and they are sending a plumber out today.

installed laminate flooring in 2 rooms actually came out nice.

Moving the washer and dryer to a spare room and getting rid of the stacked washer/dryer combo that came with the house. Had a horrible time plumbing the washer. I soldered the connections until it came time to connect to the existing lines. to the new copper pipes. I couldn’t get the pipes dry enough to heat the pipe to solder. I have a 4 ft. crawls space but i was losing patience so I put shark bite connections in.

I still have to finish up the floors and the washer drain. clean the gutters, and tear out some really bad landscaping.

and the fun is just beginning I’m sure.

An old plumbers trick for soldering copper pipe, is to get some white bread, and make some balls out of it, stuffing them into the pipe. The bread will dissolve when water flows through the pipe. Stuff them far enough up the pipe for a good solder joint.

Are you using propane as a heat source, and flux to clean the joints, before soldering?

cleaned inside and out of pipe with emery cloth then used flux on the fittings. the fittings bottomed out so i know they were far enough in.

used this torch from the H/D http://www.bernzomatic.com/item.html?id=12

I have read about the bread thing but i have the fittings on there now so i am just going to run with them for a while.
