Bed frame welding cart

The other day I decided to repurpose some scrap steel into an econocart for my MM 211. Those bed frames are good steel! At some point I would like to add a drawer above the machine as well as more hangers, maybe a small breaker box for 110v receptacles. When it's completed to satisfaction i'll blast and paint it too.

I will likely move the axle back a few inches as I had intended for it to cantilever to keep the weight off the casters in a bumpy driveway, but I overdid it a touch.

Hope I don't take too much flak for the rebar! It works better than it looks if that's any excuse!

A lot of people gripe about the bedrail but its tough stuff. You know all the fat people are getting it on, but you never see a bent piece of bedrail.

I use it for a lot of projects.

I use bed frames as well. Not always good steel but I get it free so I can afford to scrap it if it doesn't weld up OK. My first project was a welding cart, but now my skills are improved a little I might make a new one.

I have repurposed bed rails for heavy duty shelf brackets in garage.
Those look like shopping cart wheels on your welding cart..I salvaged plenty of those wheels off shopping carts that the snow plows/customers have damaged. Excellent for making car dollies, engine stands...you name it

rossco12,
Nothing wrong with your cart. I also use bed frame steel for various projects. The dimensions are common enough to do a lot of projects. Free is a great price also. I'm currently making a riser stand for my Kennedy machinist's chest and I've made spring compressors with the flat material that comes with a frame assembly.

This is a great idea! I have an old frame I have been needing to do something with and have not been able to bring myself to throw it away. These are some great ideas!

Thanks all.

I fix and modify a lot of stuff, mostly at work, and consider myself a fairly competent welder, but my experience is limited when it comes to ground up fabrication, so this was a good little exercise in keeping things square and such. I look forward to becoming more involved in this forum, hopefully as I work towards getting my dad's shop presentable/finished.

It hurts me to drive by a bed frame on the side of the road when I cannot pick it up.

Bed frames drill pretty decent with a drill press. I used some to modify a cart into my welding cart, built a wheel and tire rack too. Couple months ago I cut the sheet metal supports off the bottom of my truck bed-all rusted out. Welded new ones out of bed frames and it's stiffer than it ever was. I love using it!
