Start at HD and look at their engineered wood flooring. It's basically click and lock stuff and what is commonly referred to as 'floating'. In other words, it's not anchored to the floor. Sits on top of a membrane.

The more you spend, the longer you can expect it to last. Even the cheap stuff has a 10 year plus warranty...a whole lot better than carpet.

Wait until you pull up that carpet and see how nasty it is underneath. I'll NEVER have carpet in my house again....NEVER.

Anyway, HD will show you the less expensive options. A flooring store is going to be more but will have more options and offers better installation.....if you don't want to do it yourself.

Expect to pull up the baseboard when you do it if you want a clean looking installation.
