My selection changes from time to time. I like to try different beers every now & again. Right now I have Blue Moon Belgian style pale ale & a bottle of Dead Guy Ale. Let's see what I end up with the next time that I hit the distributor.

Too many to list but just about anything from Deschutes Brewing, especially Black Butte Porter. Rouge Ales are pretty good. Right now I have a sampler case from Kona brewing...enjoying that too!

Another one for PBR!
Image is of the wall in the garage, in case I forget what I'm drinking.

Honestly though I'm not really bright enough to drink while working, so the beer usually comes out while cleaning up.

I pity all the guys in here spouting off "Budweiser" or "Coors Lite" or some other macro as if they truly enjoy it. I've had a hard time drinking any of the mass produced macro's anymore. I practically have to gulp it to avoid the taste. You know a ****** beer when the warmer it gets, the more you have to fight just to get it down.

You guys that think that craft stuff has to taste bitter or strong, and that "Dark" beers are automatically "strong" or "thick" need to try some new things in life.

Light tasting sessionable (able to drink mass quantities) beers:

Blue Point Toasted Lager: Flavorful but easy drinking lager. I don't care who you are, you'll like this one.
Yards Philadelphia Pale Ale: Mildly hoppy, with a piney/citrussy character. I could drink this by the case
Stoudts Scarlet Lady: Smooth, sweet and malty.
Oskar Blue's Mama's little yellow pils: slightly more bitter hops, but still a smooth pils.

Today's beer lesson. Dark beers are not dark because they are stronger (it's not coffee). They are dark due to the roasting of the malts. Therefore they tend to have a toastier or even chocolatey flavor. Some people claim guiness is thick. It's not at all, it simply lacks carbonation, so no fizzyness. That's simply so you can drink more without feeling full, but it takes some getting used to the nitro creaminess.

Yup.

All the macro beers are adjunct beers. They have added rice and corn to the mash to lighten the beer and lower the cost. This includes Bud, Miller, PBR, and all the other beers your father drank. Real beer is made from malted barley. Maybe wheat. Not rice. Definitely not rice.

My favorite brewers are Dogfish, Clipper City, Stoudts, Victory, Long Trail, Switchback, Magic Hat usually, Harpoon sometimes, Brooklyn sometimes, BBC, Bells, Avery, Flying Dog, Lagunitas, Rogue, Southern Tier, and the grandaddy of them all, The Alchemist. That's only a partial list.

I usually drink US micro beer, there's so much to love. Why bother sending money abroad? One notable exception is Sam Smith (yes Smith, NOT Sam Adams) Oatmeal Stout. World class. Grolsh also has a unique taste I like, but there is also much better to be had here.

For you Guiness fans, find a bottle of Avery Out of Bounds Stout. Same style, but better. As dark beers go, Guiness is pretty light body. Also try Becks Dark as an intro to dark beers. Some stouts and double IPAs can get quite heavy, both in body and alchohol content. There is also huge taste there. Not good for dying of thirst coming in hot from mowing the lawn. A stout is for a hearty snack, or by the fire, or at the pub to sip on.

Try some summer wheat beer, BBC makes a great full bodied wheat called River Ale. (New England only) Sam Adams Summer was decent last year, but in general Sam Adams is over rated. Bells Oberon is excellent if they sell it in your state. Sierra Nevada has a good line of beers, and the Pale Ale is widely distributed. Also try Magic Hat #9, which is getting wide distribution. It is a light pale ale with a lot of apricot on the nose, but much less in the taste. A much drier finish than average. Good summer beer, and not bitter at all. Not that bitter is bad. You put pepper on your steak and salad, don't you? But not too much.... Same with hops and bitterness. A little is good. Once you develop a taste for fresh hops, a little more is good too.

In my fridge now:
Dogfish 90 minute IPA. Bells Oberon. Victory Storm King stout.

Michelob Ultra and/or Miller Lite and/or Coors Light and/or Bud Light!

Horrible, every one of them. I still don't follow how anyone can enjoy drinking that. Guzzling it to get drunk I understand... actually tasting it going down?
BrrrrrrrF...

You guys seriously need to try new things. It's as if someone asked you what the best burger was, and you spouted off McDonalds, Wendys, and the local hospital cafeteria's.

Sam Adams Boston lager is a great beer, but not what I would recommend for someone looking to switch from a "beer" brewed with corn/rice, to what a beer is supposed to be.

I'd suggest Sam light as a good stepping stone, Abita Light is another one... these two will wean you off the corn/rice **** and on to the flavor of malted barley... (if you don't like the taste of malted barley, wtf are you doing drinking beer to begin with? Try some wine coolers or something)... once you start to get used to a beer having a good malty flavor (light beers will seem malty to the bud/coors/miller drinker that doesn't know what malt or hops taste like), then move up to something with some more flavor.

Yards Brawler is an awesome beer with low IBU (International Bitterness Units), Victory's Festbier is another smooth and flavorful example, although only available toward the end of the summer. Last recommendation for those who think they can handle stepping up from the swill... Victory's Whirlwind Witbier. It's a wheat beer, so malted wheat instead of barley, but it's tasty, unlike the corn/rice junk.

Dogfish Head's beers are a great step up from there, but not for the beginner, unless he's adventurous.

Trust me guys, once you get hooked on some of the good stuff, you'll never look back.

The cold is to mask the underlying flavors that are undesireable, it's numbing your taste buds. You probably can't drink miller lite that's anywhere close to room temperature without gagging. Good beer should still taste good even when it's not refridgerator cold.

Not trying to pick an argument, well... mostly not, but if you think you like the taste of beer, you need to find some better beers. Your enjoyment will go up considerably...

I had Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier last night for the first time and it was amazing.

The 'loyality' to beers is humorous.....

Most people can not tell the difference between beers. Take a Miller Lite....Coors lite...change the temps a little...drinkers would never know.

Bars have been doing that for years....run out of one...put something else there...in most cases, they don't even play with the temps.

But if I have to pick a beer.....the Costco stuff is pretty good...

It all has to do with how people drink todays crappy beers. The objective is to taste them as little as possible. This ensures that people can't tell the difference, because they avoid letting them touch their tongue, and simply guzzle them for the alcohol.

Usually Blue Light in the garage but I will switch it up. I save the good/expensive stuff for the house and with food, when I can enjoy it more. One of my favorites is Sam Adams Oktoberfest but I like a lot of the micro's just can't justify them when a 6 pack costs almost as much as a 15 pack of blue light or others that work in the garage.

Black and tans are probably my favorite and I do really like all the craft beers, I'm friends with a hop farmer etc. but I'm ready to start a cheap beer movement to combat all the beer snobs.

We get it, you have refined taste, why don't you remove a rib or something? It's just beer.
