There are three items in different adds by the same poster. Been trying to get an answer since 5:30 am Friday morning. I want to buy them all. Think they would check thier email at least once daily? :(

Re: Beggining to hate Craigslist!!arrggghhhh!

I have had so many of those I lost count. I wonder sometimes why they even post an ad if they aren't going to pay attention to the responses.
I like the ones where they say "call after 8am", but don't include a phone number.
They probably think nobody wants their stuff, but the reality is they are too stupid to run an ad.

When were the items posted? Some people sell the stuff right away but don't bother to take down their ad. BTW, it's "ad" short for advertisement. Just sayin' :)

same here. reply to the ad, post a pic of said item. put a real price ( not $1 or make offer)

people really make it more difficult than it needs to be.

Everytime it says 1 dollar that is what i offer, then when they decline i remind them that is what their price in the ad is and ask if they would like to go to court and see if it will hold up. just like to f with them most are a bunch of morons anyway.

Reverse side of the coin - I've got my wife's vehicle up on CL, at what I think is a darn good price compared to other similar vehicles listed.
Got maybe 2 calls and a bit of spam. Not one looker.

The real jokers are the ones that post a phone number and then state in all bold letters to text them, no calls, just text. Seriously? You want to sell your ****, but not bad enough to actually pick up the phone when it beeps? Unless it's a text, in which case you're happy to pick it up and screw around texting me back instead of just talking to me? What planet are these people on???

The world is full of flakes. Craigslist just exposes you to people that you otherwise ignore.

My approach to craigslist is like batting in baseball. I am a superstar if my average is .333:thumbup:

Some people can't afford the excess cell phone minutes, but have an unlimited text plan. I've got a friend like that. Single mom with daughter - all conversation is either by text or when the cell minutes are free at night.

I've also got friends that have cell minutes but no text plan, so they get charged 20 cents for each text.

I try to be mindful of their preferences.

Ok, I'm cynical, but I figure:

They've either 1) sold it already

Or more likely 2) just collected your email for a spam list

Keep in mind they are thousands of others just like you looking at the same item, it maybe sold, or buyer said they were coming to get it tomorrow flaked out, and they had to relist it.

Be patient and your deals will come.

Ugh... I had one like that recently. Selling some machinery including what looks like might be an Atlas 7" Shaper. No phone number, so I email asking for details. No reply. Email again 2 days later. No reply.

2 weeks later, the ad shows up again... lather, rinse, repeat.

I wonder if your email is ending up in their spam filter. If it is a hotmail account, it could be...

The fact that they don't check their spam folder is a whole different manner...

The good news is that maybe the price will be lower since it didn't sell the first time!

Just because YOU use a phone to talk doesn't mean everyone does - or CAN, for that matter. What planet are YOU on???

Just a friendly jab, and trying to get you to step outside of your box...

Because you can pick up a phone and talk with one hand and one button press vs. ... how many hands and buttons does it take to text? :headscrat

That and nobody I've ever seen could text faster than they could talk. :p123

Or maybe the fact that if you're trying to sell something you should be willing to stop what you're doing if you expect someone to buy your stuff. :dunno:

Fair enough, but one good jab deserves another. :D

While your proposition is entirely possible, it's extremely unlikely. That's especially true of people selling on Craigslist. Might explain once in a blue moon, but certainly not the overwhelming majority of cases. Arguing from extremes is good for poking fun, but not much else. :spit:

Appreciate the insight though, it's all good.

Re: Beggining to hate Craigslist!!arrggghhhh!

I have an ad up right now for a camper for $300. I posted my phone number and stated NO TEXTS.

I've had about ten texts asking for more pictures. I'm thinking I should send them some gay **** or something

Seriously I'm not sure why my phone isn't ringing constantly, try and find an import camper that cheap. I'm going to relist it next week for $1000 and I bet it sells within days

Re: Beggining to hate Craigslist!!arrggghhhh!

sold three cars so far on craigslist. First one was gone in 1 hour, i priced that one way too low. Second one was gone within 6 hours, it was a 2000 sienna, but i priced it really high, as I was kinda testing the market, didn't need to sell it, but if it will fetch the ridiculous high price i set on it, I'll take the cash. The price was higher than most of the other ads. Didn't matter, as it was gone within 6 hours. Third one took about two days.

What I've found with craigslist is that, as a seller, when buyers contact you, they really are interested in the item at that instant. You have to strike while the iron is hot... i.e. be available to meet with them real soon.

As a buyer, I only buy things i know. If it's priced really cheap, I'll go take a look at it. Most of the time, I bring cash. But i'm not leaving the house for a "decent deal." it has to be at least half off the new price, and when I get there, it has to be in good condition. If both of these conditions are met, I want it. Heck, i already made the drive, right?

People who doesn't respond to email/call/text within 24 hours either sold their item already, or thought they priced their item too low.

The items were posted late the night before, Thursday around 11:30pm. I replied at 5:30 am with no answers. It's not to likely some one bought all three pieces from three different adds. I sent seperate replies to all the adds. I would just move on, but I've been looking for one of the pieces for a very long time. I hate to miss out on it. They don't list very often. At least say it's sold!:(

Been there done that....

I've bought a number of things off of CL. What I hate is selling stuff there... It draws out every flake and leg-humper in the 5 state area, not to mention the @holes from Nambugazie that want to send a cashiers check for twice the amount if you'll work with their shipping agent blah blah blah....

Re: Beggining to hate Craigslist!!arrggghhhh!

I've sold numerous 2 cars and a tractor on CL. I got 100 responses to each of them. Some had honest interest in the item, others were obviously fishing, because they would offer double what I was asking saying they would bring cash that very hour. I only responded to the ones I thought were serious buyers. Well, that can get monotonous. So I would whittle it down the first ,then second etc to arrange a time to have them come see the item. So to the OP it may be that they were overwhelmed and unprepared to deal with the mass interest in what they were selling

Hate it. Sold a car hauler with only 1500 miles on it for $1750. That was asking price. Paid $2500, used it once to move. Why do I hate it? I hate CL because my ad was flagged 6 times. Sometimes within minutes of postnig. I KNOW there was nothing wrong with my ad, I think it was a local trailer mfgr who didn't like the "competition." Who cares? I only had one to sell! No recourse with CL because it is free, but man was it frustrating.

Some people who ask to have responses via texting may be doing so because they can reply when they are "working" without their co-workers hearing them chatting on the phone about stuff they are selling.
I have a guy in my department who I wish would do that, instead of carrying on telephone conversations with other Mopar enthusiasts who have responded to his ads for parts he is selling, discussing the relative merits of this carburetor or that when he should be WORKING.

Re: Beggining to hate Craigslist!!arrggghhhh!

The ones I hate are the ones with only a minimal title "Air Tools" and then no pictures and something like "Several air tools - call (or text or e-mail) for details."

Even worse are the "must see to appreciate" ones - again with no pictures.

Everyone has a digital camera or a cell phone that takes pictures. You take the time and trouble to go through the whole posting process and don't include pictures.

Truthfully, I don't hate them. Just don't bother with them at all... Although, sometimes I wonder if those are the great deals because nobody else is willing to bother with them either. But I tend to think that if they can't be bothered to take the time it is probably just junk anyway.

I'm not the least bit interested in making or receiving phone calls when dealing with buying or selling on CL. 99% of the time, when I call YOU, I get your voice mail, you speak a dialect that I don't understand well, you're driving/at the lapdance club/in line at Wally World and I can't hear you. If I DO reach you, you tell me how to get to your place by saying "You know where Rollilng Acres Subdivision is?".

Much simpler to say, via email (or txt for those that txt) -
1234 Mystreet Ave, 85254
If someone is reading the ad on a computer, they have the ability to google/mapquest the address (INCLUDE THE ZIP).

Tell me exactly what time I can come and look at your widget, the address and zip and that's the extent of what I need. We don't need a conversation, we need to simply exchange a very small amount of data (time, addy).

Yeah... This... The number of times I've e-mailed someone, got a response of "Call me" only to get voicemail or the guy talking from what can only be the inside of an operating jet engine or some otherwise totally waste of my time.

CL is fantastic, surely you guys tried to sell stuff before it was around? Huge huge waste of time and expense. About 70% of the times that I put an ad in the newspaper the person on the phone got the ad wrong then you have to call em back after it has already been printed etc etc. From a buyers standpoint I don't have to go buy papers and autotraders. No, I like CL a lot.

+1. In the old days, you'd PHONE the newspaper, dictate your classified ad, hope they got it right ("Gas Heater" vs "Gas Eater" etc), snail mail a check to the newspaper, wait for it all to be printed, receive dozens of phone calls, we didn't have voice mail then so you had to answer every one of them, take notes, arrange a schedule, drop what you're doing to deal with it etc, then continue to receive phone calls after the widget sold.

CL today - you post something at 3am while you're drunk and in your underwear, costs zero, exposed immediately to a gazillion people who don't have to subscribe to the newspaper, yada yada.

And then some want to revert to old technology "Phone me so we can discuss what I didn't make clear in the ad".

Geez folks - welcome to the interwebs.

Re: Beggining to hate Craigslist!!arrggghhhh!

I have had very good results from selling stuff on Craigslist. But when I list something for sale I WANT to sell it and price it accordingly. Sometimes I sell it weeks after I posted the ad and had given up. Almost all the people I have dealt with have been very nice people. But, I see lots of stuff for sale at high prices or with no picture (or a poor picture) that I just ignore.

I have reported scams to their web master however. For example a popular one was to advertise a Kubota tractor with all the attachments for a price about 40% of market value. It would always be out of town and not available to be seen. Once, just to expose them, when they said where it was, I said I had a friend that lived in that town and where could it be seen. They responded "the tractor was at a shipping depot being crated but once I bought it they would ship it immediately" of words to that effect.

I doubt I would ever buy something I could not see before paying for it.
