Hi. I have learned a lot from reading posts here, so I thought I would share a recent find with other members considereing adding lights to the garage.
I recently had struggled to learn how to run wiring, switches, etc. for some flourescent lights in my garage. I was planning on some four bulb, surface mount flourescent units, wiring and a variety of Wiremold Racetrac "conduit". This was a bit more of a project than I really wanted to dig into, and I decided to just go with some shop lights. These are the ones I went with:

I also happened to stumble onto the Belkin Conserve Switch:
http://www.belkin.com/conserve/switch/
It is a multi-outlet with 8 outlets. Six of those are controlled by a remote that resembles a lightswitch.
I have three shop lights plugged into it. It comes with a small plastic mounting bracket for the remote. It looks like a soap dish that has grooves for the remote to snap into, plus two screw holes, so it can be mounted to a wall.
There are three DIP switches located under the battery door. One switch can control more than one unit. For example, I plan to have two units running three or four shop lights. I would just hit the remote, and all the lights on both multi-outlets will come on. I already have one unit runnign three shop lights and I don't have any problems.
This product saved me a lot of trouble, and it may be worth checking out for someone else. I hope this helps.
