I added a box extender to a two gang bell box. The gasket sticks into the box on the left and right side.

So, the outlets (and maybe the wires) are touching the gasket. Is this normal? I followed the directions exactly.

As mentioned, it's not a problem as long as the box is sealed - check to make sure the gasket hasn't bowed in anywhere so it's not squeezed between the mating faces of the box and extender.

Looks like it's bowed in on the right hand side. Honestly these foam gaskets kind of ****, from my experience, but they're what you're supposed to use.

Yes, they do ****. It's a little too small, so it never lined up correctly.

Sometimes when I attach in-use covers the gasket doesn't fit 100% tight so I do a couple wraps of electrical tape just for good measure. Doesn't look pretty but gets the job done.

Here is something I do. A bell box also has 4 threaded holes, one in each corner. The in use covers also has indents in each corner that you drill out. Mounting it on the box with screws in each corner gives it a much better seal

Yeah I like the style that mounts on the corners like that vs. the ones relying on the device screws.
