Bell Box Reaction to Concrete

When using regular masonary galvanized boxes in exterior brick walls, etc - they do tend to get a bit rusty, moreso if you live by the water....

You don't see the slight rust unless you remove the cover to replace a device/receptacle/etc.

What is the story with cast aluminum bell/mulberry boxes installed in Brick Walls ? If I recall correctly, the aluminum does corrode over time due to galvanic corrosion with the crete. I know conduit cannot be installed in concrete, but I suppose it's just the same/similar on how it get's surface mounted. Is it only when it's *in direct concrete when it's wet* that is the primary issue in corrision.

I'm planing to to make a hole in a brick exterior wall to out a 2 gang box. I was inclined to use a Bell box

If or once chipped the mulberry box will corrode.and they always chip at least where the cover hinge moves...were it me, I would use one of the carlon plastic boxes and do a really nice cover to make it look nice.

IF you go with either metal box in the wall, I have used roofing felt or a cut shingle around and behind the box, to slow down the corrosion.

I really wouldn't worry about the rust to much, it would take 100 years for them to rust apart. You could do a pvc box
