Belt/Disk sander score

Set out for a good morning of garage selling today. I found and bought a Cal Hawk belt/disc sander. He was asking $60 for it. I told him I would give him a crisp $20 bill and before he could counter offer, his wife stood up from her chair and said "SOLD!" So I plugged it in, turned it on, loaded it up, and drove off.

I paid $100.00 for mine although it came on a rolling cabinet so I'm still happy. These units were sold under a number of different tags. I recently posted some photos and info about my experience with it here:

Cleaning up the back yard yesterday. I had an old Weber charcoal grill that needed hauled to the dump. I decided to use the stand to mount my newly aquired disk/belt sander, so I cleaned it up a little bit. Need to come up with a table top which shouldn't be difficult to come up with...

That looks kinda low, I'd recommend looking for a 1 or 2 drawer unit to place on that, then place the grinder on top of that. There's nothing worse than working hunched over and getting a sore back.

For $100 I could get 3 stands built specifically for it from HF. Unless your sanding/grinding more than 1/2" off whatever....you shouldn't need to be hunched over long enough to get a sore back.

OK, I'm just trying to make myself feel better after seeing your $20.00 deal. If I had a choice I'd rather have your deal so I could spend the $80.00 that's left over on more goodies. I got mine with a nice compressor and drill press at an estate sale and all have custom rolling bases with drop down anchors to stabilize them once in position. It's a nice set up so I'm not complaining.

I've had a few back injuries though so all my counters and work surfaces tend to be on the high side so I don't have to bend at all. Once you screw your back you tend to care about those things.
