I had a 200 mile trip & had to put a belt on the v6 honda. Needed to make a belt tool. It was Saturday night at 8pm & could not get the belt on the lower pulley....

Made this with:

1. a piece of aluminum from a broken sun umbrella
2. U Nail
3. some old paint to jazz it up & make it look good...

Anyone else make one for the belts?

I have to make one for the timing belt tensioner wrench in a pinch when I was doing my timing belt. Actually couldn't find one locally and ordering one online won't get here before the end of the day.

for me:
it's just two holes drilled 17mm apart on center, off some small piece of 3/16 thick metal. I think I got that from an angle iron or flat stock.

drilled another piece of 17mm holes on a thicker (1/2) stock as a guide for me to weld the pins straight.

a spare nut of 14mm or 15mm or 12mm forgot what it is

the pins are from the end of the broken drill bit or the guide of some broken dvd rom, harder than the nail and fits into that hole of the tensioner.

weld pin using the guide to the 3/16 stock.
weld nut to the stock on the other side.

use an ratcheting wrench to the nut. use a shot piece of bolt and a large washer to keep it in place or just use as is.

This is so that in case I needed a different angle I can adjust if I just weld to flat piece handle I can't adjust the angle when needed in those tight spots.

Awesome!! I love that fact that so many talented people on this forum share what they made.
Post a pic if you can.

there used to be the "post the tools you have made" threads not sure where it went. People just not sharing these days.

I tried looking for a post that would have "tools made". I had an old timer from Italy that would make all these crazy tools out of items he had in the shop. Simple pulleys from old machines he would stock pile. He used handles from weed wackers & attached them to carts he made.

I will try to start a post today.
